Silly Question..

Why does my 2000 Monaco LaPalma GENERAC Q-55G have 2 oil openings? The one on the left has the dip stick measure , but the one on the right has nothing but a cap. Do you need to put oil in both ? Just not sure what the reasoning is for 2 ?

Need a picture. The manual I found online doesn't show a second oil access port.

If this is the correct manual, it indicates that the dipstick and oil fill are two separate ports.

It's hardly amazing - many engines have separate dip sticks and oil fill ports. Your car, for instance.

If you need to add oil, use the larger filler port.

This manual shows a closer picture to the OPs generator.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/60...page=28#manual

In the exploded views, the oil fill/dipstick are located on the left side of the generator and the yellow plug to the right is mearly a plug in the valve cover. the instructions indicate that the oil should be filled from the oil fill/dipstick on the left.

probly should not be changing oil.. imho.. really i think he is joking.. maybe he changed oil in an inboard boat which most times have big dipstick tube to suck oil out as its hard to get it out of pan bottom.

Maybe the motor and or generator are used in different applications where accessibility is needed from the other side.

TMeyers has the right idea. You don't really think they designed the generator just for one application. Different mountings, cabinets, sound shields, all require different locations for things. My boat engine, for example allows the dipstick to be changed from one side to the other. Can you snake an arm in to check the oil in some applications but not have room to pour oil?

Wish I had that setup on my Onan 5500. Oil fill is much quicker and less messy through that big port on the left.
