My single axle has many benefits. Mine handles great, can go a 1/4 mile without any corrections. 2 less tires to buy. Far less complexity. Less rolling resistance drag. Better mpg (8.9 vs 6-7). Less maintenance. Mine has access to the side of the engine where most parts are. And LESS initial cost.

Save time, money, and aggravation and go straight to the tag axle coach.

Like I said before they don’t all handle the same. Cross-winds / trucks don’t bother us a bit with a single rear axle. Maybe you should pilot mine down the road.

I have had both over the years. Which floor plan meets your needs best is a key.

My personal preference is the tag. One reason is they are needed to support the weight of the longer coaches. I also think the tag coach’s look cool compared to a non tag coach.

Same here. It’s not a problem at all. Our single axle coach weights 32,000+ lbs. though. That might be part of it.

I’ve read all the posts and have bit the bullet. I’m getting a 45’Phaeton from Lazy Days in about ten days. Already agreed on price and they’re getting a few things I wanted installed. I don’t know where to post this but there used to be a discount fuel card you could apply for. I think it was TSD. Does anyone know if this still works or what discount cards are available. Picking up camper in Texas about 1000 miles from me. Would love to save on fuel

Yes, the TSD Open Roads card is still available and it provides a nice discount at stations in their network. Another option is the Mudflap app, which also provides nice discounts (although not as much as Open Roads) and expands your network of fuel stations.

Congrats on your decision. For us with two people and a big fan of taking my coach to off beat places, I am ok fine with 38 single axle. Drive quality has been greatly improved but I know it will never equal a tag axle. Also my payment is zero so I am willing to put up with less than perfect. Wife puts up with both coach and me so it's settled.
I just used TSD cross country and the participants are less than they used to have. However with a little planning you can save quite a bit. I only use truck stops anyway.

Congratulations. The coach you selected has a long history of being good.
Be cautious with your dealer. Get everything well documented.

Enjoy the new coach.

We use the open roads TSD card often. Nice discount plus the connivence of using the card. You can fill your rig and def with one swipe at the pump using that card. No need to go into the truck stop.

I do wish there were more 40ft tag coaches available, really like my cornerstone but having one with 600hp and a few feet shorter sign me up….

We are on our first trip using the TSD card, zero complaints except some areas there are not stations with an agreement with TSD. But as someone stated a little planning ahead and it’s not a issue,

We have saved between $0.30 and $1.35 a gallon!

We also started a new bank account just for the fuel card, they will only take money directly from a bank account.

I know the OP has made his decision, but there is one thing not mentioned here concerning the tag -vs- non-tag. As already mentioned, the tag will give you more CCC than the non-tag, but how much more of that CCC is actually available? Just like non-tag owners have to watch the weight on that rear axle, tag owners have to watch the weight on that front axle. Without weighing in on which is better (we've had two 45-foot tag axle coaches), I will say that our current single axle Allegro Bus has more usable CCC than our previous tag axle '19 Entegra Anthem... why, because the Anthem's front axle was already less than 1,000 pounds from being overweight. I know the carrying capacity of front axles have been getting beefier and beefier, but it just seems to me that when a manufacturer uses a beefier front axle, they will also typically add something that eats into the extra weight gain of that beefier front axle.
