Sink drain

I have 2018 26M Winni Intent in the kitchen sink the ring is starting to leak, i know it needs new putty. But I can not get the big nut to loosen without stripping the drain. Does anyone have any idea how to stop everything from spinning

Try an oil filter wrench. They have metal kind too but these rubber kind don't tear stuff up.Lefty loose.

There is a special tool that fits down into the drain and holds onto the cross. Sometimes you can get away with plier handles or long nose pliers but they usually end up buggaring things up. Another solution is just cut it off and replace the whole strainer assembly with new.

X2 on replacing the whole thing, there appears to be multi threads damaged, will continue to be difficult.

Good luck

Stick a pair off needle nose pliers inside have someone hold while unscrewing bottom.

Buy a cheap sink repair kit or single pipe with the nut that uses the same size as the threads on the smaller drainpipe thread below the big nut (1.5" or 2") that you're trying to remove. The nut will protect the threads. Screw it on and tighten it down and then remove the big nut while holding the small nut. Use a new nut so you don't break the nut you have on the pipe you removed since it may be hard to find that pipe and bend.

You need a sink drain wrench to loosen the big nut and a pair of needle nose pliers as previously suggested.

Just replaced whole unit. Had to use 2 pair channel locks. Replacements at Home Depot 13.90 each.

For future reference it's quite easy to cut thru one of those plastic nuts with a hot soldering iron.
