Get the part number and shop around for the best price. Because it happened right after/during turning I’m also leaning towards clock spring diagnosis.

I would connect a wire to a 12V source, then to the steering wheel, bypassing the clock spring. Then see if the components in the steering wheel work. If they do, it’s the clockspring that’s broken. I had one break when I hit an extremely rough pavement that violently shook the steering column, luckily while under warranty.
Another thought, if you’ve seen NASCAR steering, they have a coiled wire wrapped a couple loops around the column to provide power to the wheel. Would be much more economical than a $525 clockspring if you didn’t mind a wire around the column.

Clock spring removal reveals mystery wire.
Removed the clock spring and found in the pig tail an additional yellow plug on the end that wasn’t connected to anything under the dash. And the two wires from the plug to the clock spring had been cut off at the spring!🤨

New clock spring
Installed new spring, now all smart wheel buttons working.
VIP troubleshooting guide was very helpful.

Did the new one have the cut wires and unused extra plug?

No, extra yellow plug on the new one. I didn’t see a another yellow plug under the dash either. No idea what that plug was for.
New one plugged into existing wires with no issues.

Couldn’t source the part online. Had to use Fliner. $493.00, no ship charge.
