So close to making a purchase in TX
Hi all,
So after years of dreaming, looking at RVs, and books, and months of reading posts on this site my DW and I are really close to making a purchase.
We've been through countless online sites, done as much homework as we can and think we're ready. (Though we know that until we take the leap we'll never know.)
We're looking for a used coach. We live in TX so we've checked out MHSRV in person 3 times, We've been to Crestview RV, and this week we're going to PPL in both New Braunfels and Houston. We've looked on Craigslist but there's really nothing there that we've found that we're looking for.
We plan to pay cash. We're looking between the $30,000 to $40,000 range for our first Class A. We'd love a diesel and have seen some older 1999 through 2001 models in that price range online.
For gas we've seen 2000-2005 model year units. Our requirements are simply that she would run well and sleep 6 and is clean! We have preferences of course in floor plans, namely that you don't have to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom, and we'd love to have pass through storage, and be able to tow 5K pounds.
This board has been so friendly. If anyone has any thoughts, comments, wisdom or insight, we'd really be appreciative.
Please don't hesitate to comment now, our lease is expiring soon and we will be forced to make the decision to either stay in our lease or take a shot at this adventure.
Any insight on PPL motorhomes, or other places to look in TX that we may not have thought of is genuinely appreciated.

PPL is my benchmark. I have not bought anything from them but have read many good comments here in the past.
Buy the best quality coach you can for your money.

That usually (not always) puts you in the DP arena.

I've had good luck with ron hoover as well.. They don't always have a big used selection, but where I have dealt with them they are good people and I've gotten good service from them.
Keep in mind the banks will let you put a longer note on a motorhome. If you've got that much cash to put down you could get a used DP 2005+ for around 80k or less..
Longer note you could have your payments down to 300 or less if that is an option.
My main suggestion is look at a ton of different designs to get a good idea of the layout you want and when you look at a MH just remember that the insides can be modified to a degree.

Check the classifieds on this site. There is exactly what you are looking for posted. It's against the rules to try to sell anything on the forum, so the best I can do is direct you to the classifieds here.

Thanks for the feedback
We are really not wanting any payments of any kind. Paying in cash will allow us to use the money we would be using for payments for upgrades, repairs, maintenance new tires etc. Oh and perhaps a nicer park every once in awhile.
I'll take a look at the classifieds here. I put a wanted ad up there. The issue is I want to buy in Texas. So that kind of limits me.
Thanks again for all your input. If anyone else has more insight to share, We'll gladly take it.

We looked all over the country for a specific Class b and came back home to the Dallas area and found one from Motor Home Specialists in Eldorado Tx. They were good to deal with and we got a good deal. There are large with lots to look at. Just what you are looking at value wise for any of the dealers can skin you.

Think we may have found a unit today. Need a mechanic in the Houston area.
Anyone here have a mechanic they trust and highly recommend in the Houston area for a Class A gas motorhome?
Need him/her to look over the entire rig, not just the engine and generator. Any tips would be appreciated.
Looking for booking the mechanic for early next week to go and look at a unit I'm considering buying.
Thanks all in advance!
