So, what did your last tow or mobile mechanic call out cost?

Just curious, I see prices all over the place...

I got stuck in a ditch/mud. Tow out with a small tow truck was $360.

Blown air line, on a weekend, mobile mechanic came out for an hour, $240.

How about you?

Last (and only time) was when my Discovery 40G slide got stuck cockeyed. It happened at my storage yard. Called 2 mobile mechanics. 1st one charged me basic $300 for coming out and managed to do absolutely nothing. 2nd one came by, spent 2 hours, got nowhere. But he refused to charge me since he could not help me. I gave him $50 for his trouble. Ended up having to have the coach driven by a towing company to a dealer about 20 miles away. That cost me almost a grand. The dealer fixed it with a pendant reprograming. What really burns is less than a month later the dealer introduced "Mobile Mechanic Service".

Lost the starter on my HR (Chevy 8.1). Mobile mechanic charge $400 and change. Took over 4 hours because of three trips to auto store to get right starter. Charged hourly even with the trips \.

$400 for 4 hours seems cheap? Hourly rate is $100?

Had DEF NO2 sensors fail just as we got to our RV park in Florida. Called a mobile tech who came out within an hour and diagnosed the problem. He had to order the sensors since neither local Freightliner nor Cummins dealers had the parts in stock. Came back a week later and installed the sensors. Total bill parts and labor came to $690.

The prior owner of my diesel class a got towed 2 miles and it was $125/hour. Got charged $250.

That seems ungodly cheap to show up and tow a class A...

$1,200 to be towed 60 miles by a tri-axle wrecker, Good Sam ERS paid the entire bill.

That does seem cheap. I was stuck. My rig was part way into another person's stall in storage. The guy was pretty patient, but after a few weeks he started griping. I can't blame him.

That seems cheap too...?

Do you know what the price to show up and the per mile cost was?

I had a race car towed home once due to a missed shift on the track. It’s was about 150 miles, and that was $750 on a flatbed... about 10 years ago...

broke the belt on 2011 Aspire near Chatanooga TN. Mobil mechanic showed up (looked about 12 years old). Determined the AC compressor froze up. He found one about 30 miles away and goes to get it. Doesnt have the rigtht tools to remove the old compressor so he cut the lines. Installs new compressor but cannot find the right length of belt anywhere. Decides to bypass the NEW compressor and puts on a short belt bypassing the compressor. Total time spent 8 hours including multiple trips to parts store. Total cost of $1200 including the compressor. Once home it cost another 2,000 to fix the damage caused by the cut lines, which now leak and I still have no dash air. Moral of the story is carry the right tools to do these things yourself, I wont make that mistake again.

I think you could pull the old compressor and lines to the side, and leave them. Put new compressor on but don't connect...
