Mounted securely in the propane space. Screw it on and it won't fall off and it can be placed pretty much out of site.

That won't work for me, I have to release the hood from inside the cab.
I locked my keys inside once and my roadside assistance plan sent out a locksmith who couldn't seem to get any of the doors to open, but his assistant found out that I hadn't locked the window next to the dinette. He slid it open, pushed in the screen and climbed in.

Spare key
Lots of clever and sometimes expensive solutions to what shouldn't be a problem. I want to know why your door key wasn't in your pocket.
Starting your engine has nothing to do with gaining access to your vehicle. Separate the two. My car ignition key stays in the car, where it belongs. It has no possible function elsewhere. Likewise with my coach ignition key, gas cap key, storage bay key, etc. In the coach.
But every morning, through 50+ years of habit, my pants pockets receive wallet, cash, pocket knife, and a small key ring with the remote clicker for the car, the door key for the coach, and the key to my gun safe. These are access keys, not function keys, and they never leave my pocket without going right back in. Damned hard to lose!

We keep a spare car key in the MH and a spare MH key in the car. It is easy to break into a car, takes all of 1-2 minutes if you have a bladder.
I agree with habits, keys, wallet, knife into the pockets first thing.

Everyone has their different practices in terms of managing keys and spare keys. We've all been doing it for years, i.e. home, auto, RV, etc. Just find the best solution that works for YOU.
Similar to some others, we keep a spare coach ignition key inside our coach while keep a spare coach door key in the glove box of our tow vehicle in the odd event we were to lose the common set of coach keys we carry. For me, gaining entry would not be the same issue as not having a key to start the ignition.
Hell, there have been times I've spent searching for a set of keys when they were already in my pocket or better, already in the ignition :bang head:

LOL. Maybe so, for some. If the only stipulated place for your important things (keys?) is "wherever", then that's where they'll wind up-- wherever!

[emoji38]. That's a design failure. Nothing to do with keys, cash, or anything else.

We have a spare key with a larger hole drilled through the key ring hole, it is mounted under our license plate using the plate mounting screw / bolt. Easy enough to get to in a pinch, and undetectable to the naked eye.

Only compartment that I have that does not lock is the access panel to the hot water heater / furnace igniter. How safe is it to put a key in their? I would think that it would get to hot and melt the key holder. Or maybe it will not get that hot.

Put the key almost anywhere. Thieves are looking for unlocked RVs. And not spending time searching every conceivable spot to store a little key.
