spartan chassis--any with leaf springs?
I am under the impression Spartan chassis used airbags. Consider 1994 vintage--been told it is a Spartan but has leaf springs, no airbags. Going to have to drive 4 hours to look at it but if not a Spartan not sure I want to make the drive. It is a Firan Europremier, 34 foot long. I searched the site and found one reference to Firan. Doesn't tell me anything about the chassis used. I also searched Spartan and found references to airbags. So my question/confusion. Thanks

CampDaven, thanks for the links. Looks like a lot of information there but I can't get any of them to open to see the discussion. What do I need to do?

I owned a 1992 Rockwood DP - on a Spartan chassis and it had leaf springs (w/ disc brakes all around).

How does one determine the chassis, such as a Spartan? What do I look for? Thanks

I have a Spartan EC2242 chassis on my 1994 Gulf Stream that has leaf spring suspension, it also has air over hydraulic brakes. They also made a Mountain Master chassis for larger motor homes that did have the airbag suspension.

You will see lots of stuff. What looked best was the ones under www.althingsrv.com

Get the VIN - it identifies the chassis manufacturer (first three digits). If you can't decode it, call Spartan with the VIN and ask them.

My '92 is a Spartan with springs. No problems I might add.

Looked at the MH yesterday. Spartan Chassis with leaf springs. Orphan type coach, Firan, and price too high for condition and needing tires all around. We're going to pass. Looking again. coaster1--tweaked cummins I assume means you have increased the HP. What did you start with and how did you do it?

Tweaked means pump work raising the HP level to 215 from 190. Suggest Cumminsforum.com Go forums 1st gen 89 to 93 to learn how. Pulls hard, doesn't get hot and if done right, no smoke and better fuel mileage..

Haven't given up on quest for HP but going to try to get the 8.3L Cummins in a MH and get the torque even at lower HP. I have another post asking for examples of MH that would have the 8.3. Thanks for the information posted here. FP

Second generation Cummins 5.9 12 valves are the last non computer controlled diesels Cummins produced. They are very sought after because they are easy and cheap to work on and improve HP. In my '97 Dodge 1 ton dually the stock HP was 215, for less than $1,500 the current HP on a dyno is 375. Be advised though that an additional $4000.00 was spent on a torque converter and transmission which were built to handle the additional HP.
