Squawk and SQUEAK Coach Door!!!!!

I cannot be the only person to have or have had this issue. Its less in warm climates that are dry and more in humid ones. The cause of early insanity in mountain snowstorms and cold.

What are your 'hacks' or fixes for this issue. The coach door just wont stop making noise on half of the days. Other days it is quiet as a mouse.

What do I need to do? What have I not done? What is this?

DW has looked at it, but only can tell me its the door. She does not drive so I cannot study it closely while in motion.

Any tips, tricks or other magic is appreciated to stop the SQUEAK!

Make sure that the door is shutting completely. Thoroughly clean the gaskets and then spray with silicone spray.

Hope you find the solution and post the fix. I have tried everything, I spray with silicone and wipe it clean which helps some, but it comes back. I have tried to tighten the door with very little success. Good luck.

Most doors on coaches have two locking posted one high and one low those posts are adjustable with a Allen wrench. Move that post just a little to bring the door closer to the door jam . Hope this helps

Zekethomas,

I had the exact same issue that you describe.

I reasoned that the squeak was worse in the cold weather due to the door seal contracting when cold, and expanding when hot. When the rubber door seal was cold it allowed slight movement of the door and thus the squeak.

Eventually I found that the squeak was coming from the top of the door where the folding door hold open rubbed against the aluminum door frame.

To solve the squeak, I took my dremel tool and removed a small amount of the aluminum door frame so that there was no longer any contact. This solved my door squeak a few years ago.

It was really a simple 5 minute fix once I realized the origin.

Hope this helps

Jim

When you say that the rub was the folding door hold open, do you mean the screen door rubbing against the outer door? ... My 'hold open' is at the bottom of the door and the squeak is above that.

???....

No.

My door's "hold open" is at the very top of the door. It was rubbing on the top of the aluminum door frame.

It is totally silent after the slight modification

On my previous Holiday Rambler, two turns of electrical tape around the posts the latches connect to solved the problem until the tape wore through. Tape is cheap.

What is a "hold open"?

My coach has a folding scissor type mechanism that is mounted to the top of the door and is designed to hold the door open as well as act as a stop to prevent the door from opening too far and hitting the side of the coach. One end is attached to the top edge of the door, and the other end is attached to the inside of the door frame.

Your coach may be different

Lube and Altitude

Put a dry lube (same used for slide and step) on the door jam, the latches and the chunk of foam padding near the latch. It worked for most of the day.

Today, if I was above 6,000 feet it squeaked, if below, it did not. Oh well.

Electrical tape is my next option....

Thanks to all....

One of the things on my to-do list before leaving is to always put new Gorilla tape (it's heavier than electrical tape) on the door latch post

If I forget the door will squeak until we stop and I fix it

New tape=No squeak
