Started my search today ... Question

In our 'short' time owning MH's (since 1987) and spending a lot of time looking, they all seem to have some sort of 'short comings'. While I have not taken the time to really look at MH's in the $400k bracket, they sure are tempting. For me, I like the idea that I can go to Home Depot/Lowes to purchase items for repairs. These places are a lot less expensive then buying at the RV dealers. For the MH's that we have owned it seemed that there was a lot of 'soft' type woods used and screws just do not hold in that type of wood. It also seems that the RV manufacturers beleive that it is OK to screw fasteners through the paneling with nothing behind it and that it will hold. Well they have not driven Alaskan roads nor the Alcan or they would do things a lot differently! The 2009 Diplomat that we recently purchased is alot better then the 2003 Endeavor we had, but I expected that. Like the OP I would hope that more time/attention was spent building a $400k MH. Serveal years ago we were in Coburg OR and there was a MH there that the owner said that they paid $750k for and they were waiting for seveal weeks for a part to come in. I wonder if that was because the part was special for that motor home of just one of those 'hard to find' parts?

As had been stated earlier you may want to check out the Entegra line. Both Lazydays and Orlando RV handle the Entegra line.

No-one so far has mentioned the Country Coach line-up.

The Affinity and/or Magna models might have the quality you are looking to acquire. Sure, they are effectively orphans, but there is some repair support in the Junction City, Or area for these rigs. Their proprietary chassis is just components from major vendors for moving parts.

If you like the quality woodwork and more conservative residential type of construction, there are converted Prevost out there that were done by CC.

Thanks - Spoke to them in Tampa today ... Heading over in a week or so to check em out .... Have a few Prevost's to see as well,,,

There is no such thing as a 'perfect' coach - by their very nature they are all a compromise. Weight is the biggest factor until you get into the bus conversions and then to me at least, they become gaudy and way over the top.

It really depends on what you want to use it for - if you entertain a lot then choose X, if you want to fulltime then choose Y or if you just want a weekender to get away from home then choose Z

There is no magic answer - it all depends on what appeals to YOU for the purpose that you intend to put it to.

Also remember that you can go spend a couple of weeks up in Nappennee and have the interior completely rebuilt by Amish craftsmen for $50k

Could you expand on that..... Most of the Prevost units I have seen are really in bad taste.... But if the numbers make sense with an interior re-fit then ...

think of it this way you are moving a house that has to stop and go on the road and get good MPG and look good all the same

my RV is all ready 15 tons what you are looking for may be 20 25 tons and after a towed get 4mpg

i really want you to get what you are looking for just giving you some thing to think about why looking

Thanks Terry.... I will - and you guys and forum are great .... Just need to get over this learning curve - will take me a month or so to figure it out

Regarding the fuel - I am coming from the boating world .... my boat holds 400 gallons and gets ".8 mpg" ..... One run to the Bahamas and I will go thru 750 gallons at $6 per (Bahamas pricing) - thats $4500 for a week .... We could do that several times a year.... I am selling the boat and ready to try land cruising ..

Getting 7mpg I would be as happy as a pig in ......

The next would be what's your experience with land yachts? What makes you think you want to put so much money into a coach?

And just a thought - no amount of simultaneous apologies offset snobbery. If you think you're being insulting and snobbish you probably are. Why not reword things a bit and eliminate the apologies and explanations like looking for quality to match your Lexus. Plenty of folks here have their hard earned money in rigs you have dismissed out of hand and still treated you very well.

Enjoy your Newell and the casino lobby look. I will be happily motoring down the road in my little Bounder for many years to come. All ya need to do to confirm that is spend a little time in campgrounds, state and national parks.

I never dismissed anyones RV or suggestions - actually I started looking on RVtrader for the other RV's suggested ...

Regarding your post, you certainly went out of your way to insult me ... Maybe you would like to point out in what post I have been insulting and/or snobbish to others ?

I referenced my Lexus because thats the quality I would prefer but couldn't find yet ... Being new to this I had hoped it would help others suggest units that would fit my criteria

My guess is you see a luxury unit and form your opinion of the owners before the door opens....

Funny how some folks can take a side swipe at a Chevy Suburban and never know it was not quite pleasant to some.

Perhaps a tractor pull, Suburban vs Lexus?
