Starter exciter wiring

On a Western RV Alpine, There is supposed to be a wire attached to the solenoid referred to as an exciter wire (white labeled 1535). It comes from the ignition switch. The 12 volts are to be supplied to the solenoid when the ignition switch is in the start position.

12 volts is not present at the switch or the solenoid. Does anyone have any knowledge of how the 12 volts come from?

I believe that 12VDC comes from the the ignition switch when the key is turned to the start position.

Try a substitute ground wire connection from the solenoid. That fixed my no start situation (but only after I purchased an unneeded new solenoid).

Does the dash power up when you turn the key to on? If so it sounds like some power is getting to switch. Start checking fuses, should be one labeled IGNITION or IGN.

Dean, thank you very much. I ran a new ground wire from the grounds side of the solenoid as you suggested and the engine fired right up. Funny thing, after that, I removed the new ground wire so I could trace the old one went. The engine started up again without the new ground and has been starting every time. I am guessing there was a relay stuck somewhere and the ground jumper reset it. Not sure but thanks for the help. If you ever need tech info such as electrical drawings, go to this fairly new site Alpine Coach - Technical Information

Great result!

Glad you are back in business and not stuck on a street corner somewhere. I did install my new solenoid during my troubleshooting process so hope not to have a repeat performance.
