Moving company, sand plant, rock quarry, scrap recycle, landfills, all have scales, grain elevators all will give you a accurate gross weight. Their scales are designed to compare gross loaded to gross empty to know how much they are buying or selling. But all the Cat company is selling is weights, and their scale is designed to sell both gross and axle weight...

WeIGHING

This is what bothers me a lot -- differing opinions totally unrelated. First it's overwhelming CAT then a loner comes out and no CAT inaccurate. Well as long as the scales are calibrated, it will suffice.
And, then there's the suggestion to try a moving company. What a joke! Those people are a ripoff and would be the last I'd consider.
Now, the state has the capability to weigh trucks by the wheel. But, their equipment is for official use only. So, there goes another idea.
I'm going to stay with the CAT scales. Something is better than nothing at all and will at least give me an indication of weight distribution front to back.

George-

If you are in Georgia (as listed in your user profile), then perhaps you can slip over to the FMCA rally in Perry before it closes. The RVSEF (RV Safety and Education Foundation) weighing team is supposed to be there. If not, then you can schedule a visit to the RVSEF "year-round" location in "Central Florida." The calendar and information for RVSEF weighing is here.

We had our coach weighed two years ago, by the RVSEF team, in St. Cloud, FL. It took about 20 minutes. They put scales under each wheel set. They were friendly and competent.

Who says Cat is not right?
For a lifetime I have bought material, and been payed based on what the scale says. And I have seen first hand how a long platform can read different end to end. (Pull front axle on, get weight. Pull driver on, get weight. Pull trailer on, get weight, pull front off, get weight. Pull driver off, get weight. Now do some arithmetic. Does, for example, Gross minus TV equal what the trailer on the scale reads?) For what they are used for, this is not a issue, because MT or loaded the driver will normally stop at speaker/window, so the truck is in the same place.
When I was running legal, trying to stay close to 40 ton gross, I would check my gauge while on the scale, setting level. But if the gross was over about 79,000 I would hit the Cat before I found the state scale. Because if Cat said I was legal, and I got a ticket, just mail it to Cat, their guarantee would pay the fine

In BC you can go to any government scale when the sign says "Scale Closed" and get your numbers. The scales are always on with a digital readout on the board ahead of you.
Also, if you swing into the parking area behind the scales and go into the scale shack and ask politely for a weight printout, they most likely will give you one, providing they are not too busy.
Happy Glamping.

It’s already been touched on, but Cat truck Scales are calibrated and guaranteed, so I’d trust their accuracy, and have.
