Steering wheel will not lower.

I wish mine was just the cable. When I pressed the foot pedal to lower the steering wheel I heard and felt a popping noise. I was half way home and had to drive it with the steering wheel in the up position. That was weird. After removing the plastic housing I found the cable contact lever end had broken off at the point up near the top of the piston. I have an appointment to take it to Freightliner today. I hope it doesnt require the whole column to be replaced. Its a 2014 with 30K miles. I wouldnt think metal parts would just break off. Wish me luck.
