not much information to go with?? Steps need 12 volts that would mean first step (no pun intended) would be make sure there is voltage to the controller. fuse panel If there is voltage the open close is activated by a magnet switch, usually located at the bottom of the door. A small rectangular plastic box, which is the magnet, makes close contact with the switch embedded in the door jam. The switch is connected to the control unit which is wired to the motor and opening gear and arm which is connected to the step. Trouble shoot as stated is there voltage to the control unit, Red wire, You will also have a switch that is off and on for the step but not the red power wire. as there will always be power to the control unit so that if the ignition is on and the door closed the step should retract. This switch would make it possible to have the step extended with ignition off and door open or closed. Switch on and the step will retrace every time the door is closed. If nothing works and you need to move just disconnect the control arm from the step and manually push the step in a wire it in the up position until you can get it fixed. Good Luck Richard

When mine started acting up I just changed out the whole unit, motor plus gear assembly. The gear assembly didn't need to be replaced but it was only 80 dollars more. The motor was 78.
If you don't mind getting underneath your rig, and just want the steps to retract, just disconnect the plug going into the motor and the plug connecting the whole unit to the "Rig." Then push the steps in the stowed position and tie them up or into place with string or Bungie cord. Then either take it to a shop and pay 600+ dollars or order the motor and do it yourself.
I just Replaced mine. Camping world wanted 648 dollars, I ordered the motor (which is really all I needed) and gear assembly for 183 dollars and installed it on my own. Took inexperienced-Me 45 min. after watching 3-4 you tube videos. Oh and I saved 565 dollars.

"If nothing works and you need to move just disconnect the control arm from the step and manually push the step in"

I have the double steps. So the best way to get to the control arm for me, is to have the steps in the extended position. The control arm has a Cotter pin, if it's hard to get out (like mine was) yank it out with pliers. On line they'll want to sell you the Clovis pin (the little cylindrical metal that secures the connection of the control arm to the steps) and Cotter pin for 13 dollars. You can get the cotter pin at Home depot or lowe's for .65 cents and the clovis pin for 1.98. So Pls, Pls, don't throw away your cotter pin, the cotter pin from HD and Lowe's have the same circumference, but instead of having just one cotter pin hole, it has 3 or 4 so you can use it for multiple applications.
When disconnecting the electrical elements under your rig PLS give yourself room so that if for ANY reason the step Retracts, you don't get hit in the face. Push a step stool or lil wood box nice and snug underneath the 1st step. Hope this helps.

Thanks, gentlemen. A mobile tech repaired my door lock last week, so my first suspicion is that he screwed up the step switch in the door... I was going to check the fuse. The manual shows fuse 4-1, but they are not numbered that way in the box.
