Steps have a mind of their own!

Just recently my steps has grown difficult. From time to time they retract when not desired. Any ideas? Would I be correct to assume its the switch? Or should I be checking into the mechanism? What about the contacts in doorway? What is the most common fault in this situation? Thanks in advance.

About 9 months ago my steps started EXTENDING on their own, when going down the road! I was only about 3 months into owning my new-to-me RV. On my coach the door "contacts" aren't really contacts but magnets placed close to each other when the door is closed, just like an alarm on your home windows and doors. I found that one of the wires had a bad connection in the crimp. I removed all the crimps and soldered the wires together. No more problems, although, every once in a while the steps will not retract all the way. They stop about 3/4 of the way "up". Opening the door and allowing them to fully extend before closing the door again seems to do the trick.

Very likely a corroded connection somewhere.

I had the steps extending on their own a couple of times and eventually changed the door switch -both parts.
Never quite trusted it after that so added an extra manual switch to completely override the door switch.
