I think the reason the inside handle seems low is because if it was higher it would be difficult to reach from the outside when you are parked and leveled.

I believe you are right.
This is a little thing that has bothered me about motorhomes. I should be glad it isn't a myriad of other things, at least not yet, lol.

I guess you could spend a couple hundred grand and buy a diesel pusher, dump the air after you park and the door handle would be easier to reach.
Me? I'll step up and turn the handle. I never thought much of it but now it'll bug me every time I go in or out.

So if you install a house door with the handle higher for the inside how high will it be on the outside ?
You do know if you go down this road with this install it will look very red neck.
Please do post pics when done..

Nothing wrong with Redneck! [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4][emoji3]
The shape of the inside door handle bothers me the most. I have never liked lever-type door handles. I find it annoying to stand on the stairs and have to yank the lever up to open the door. I always push it the opposite direction first before realizing it wont open that way. When I do open the door, the screen door always comes detatched separate which is another minor pain.
Again, it is a stupid pet-peeve of mine. I was wondering if door changes happened and what they look look like.
Lol, after this post I think I will find it hard to convince people I'm not high-maintenance. I'm really not! [emoji39]

Too late! My neck hurts from trying to view it! J/K.
Could one modify your design to have a round knob instead of the lever?

You bet..I wish I knew WHY that happens....oh wait..let me ask Mr. G...
Here ya go: "The reason your photo would appear this way is because the photo was taken vertically and the image file itself is in this orientation.".
Tahdah! Now we both know.

That's a safety feature. If the latch opened downward, and someone stumbled against it going down the road, the door could open, dumping them out at speed.
That's the same sort of reasoning that there are no longer horizontal rocker switches on car windows. You have to pull up to close the window, rather than press down.
I'll leave the analysis for that to the reader. It's pretty graphic.

I think just a few words would solve the problem.
"Honey, would you get the door for me?"

I would never remove our screen door for any reason.
I would say our door remains open at least 50% of the time if not more. We like fresh air and that screen door keeps all the bugs and flies out.
Like others have said, I'd just hand fabricate some kind of handle extension that will make it easier for you to open the door from the inside—while standing in the bowels—of your stairwell.
