stock radio tool?

Hi,

My 2006 Monaco still has the stock radio, a Magnadyne # M9900CDS

I want to upgrade the sound system.

Looks like it takes a special removal tool to release it from
the dash. Is it a double DIN mount?

What are some of the more common replacement systems
you audiophile guys are installing?
My budget is in the $250 to $400 range, using my on labor.

Thanks!

The tool you need was in the pack with all our manuals & instruction books when we bought our motorhome, check there.

I upgraded out Magnadyne radio and the tools were in with the manuals. Mine looked like a double DIN but it was actually a 1 1/2 DIN which is probably unique to them. I had to open up the dash opening one inch in height to get a double DIN in.

Where unit did you install?

What features were most important to you?

Did you upgrade the speakers too?

I used a Kenwood DDX-719.
Main features I wanted: Used the SiriusXM SXV100 receiver, has back-up camera input, Tilt screen, and NO GPS.
I upgraded the front speakers with Polk MM521 and added a bubwoofer and amp for it.

If you don't find the U shaped wires to remove the radio, a trip to an audio dealer (Best Buy) will help you find the tool. I've been given the removal tools by asking nicely at the service desk. Sometimes you might have to purchase them. You'll strengthen the 'free' option by buying your new radio at the same shop.

A single DIN opening is 2" x 7", a Double DIN is 4" x 7."

You can bend a wire coat hanger into a "U" shape with legs about 4 inches long or so and that will work...you just need something to slip in the holes in the radio to disengage the clips.....

Got the old radio out.

Did not have a coat hanger handy but I did have 4 nails.

Just pushed each nail in about 2 1/2 inches (all 4 at once) which
released in holding clips. This is a one person job.
Radio then just slips forward and out of the dash.

By the way, found some interesting items around behind the radio.
There are two sets of aux input jacks, one is a pair of female RCA jacks
and the other is a female 1/8 inch jack.

These would be useful for add-on gear (ipod, etc) if they weren't buried
inside the dash.
