Stolen catalytic converter

Well itís happened to me. The rotten SOBís have taken my converter. I have a 07 Fleetwood F53 Chassis. Any advice when I go to replace it?

Was parked in a gated lot with barb wire around it. This is a business during the day so people coming and going all day long. So it had to be done at night.

I hate thieves. I say hang em all.

The only silver lining here is I found today. We leave for Florida in about 4 weeks. Sure would have been a bummer to be ready to leave and find it was stolen.

RE: Stolen catalytic converter

I've been told it is a big problem in Denver.

If your coach doesn't throw cat/O2 sensor codes (or you don't live in an emissions inspection state) Put a piece of straight pipe in its place. No worry of it ever being stolen again.

An 07 will for sure flag a code. Contact your insurance and the police, and then call local muffler shops. Most probably won't be able to handle a rig that big, but you might get lucky.

I live in central IN and mine was stolen last spring at the dealership. Had no problem getting a new one at local muffler shop. They just dont pull the RV inside.

It's a big problem EVERYWHERE! When mine were stolen last year, I bought replacement Magnaflow converters off Amazon for $106.00 each and installed them myself. Fortunately, the theives did a clean cut when they stole the old ones, so installation was easy. Insurance paid me based on the Workhorse replacement cost, $2,300 including installation, so it was a money maker for me.

The Moroso converters are not CARB compliant, but since I don't live in California that was not an issue for me.

I went out and looked at the motorhome again. It appears my cat didn’t have a O2 sensor in it. No cut wires hanging anywhere. The O2 sensors are just below the exhaust manifolds. I wonder if the cat will throw codes if it’s not factory? The Chassis is an 06 Ford F53. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Since the coach does not have an oxygen sensor in or behind the catalytic converter, it is not able to generate catalytic converter related codes. Does not need to be factory... likely has been obsoleted by Ford. Walker or Magna-Flow should offer a catalyst that is correct and has the retangular flange for mounting.

I spent 40+ years in Ford service departments before retiring last year.

That's how my 2007 F53 is, no rear sensor. No codes were set when the Cat was stolen/replaced.

Ok thanks guys. That’s my biggest fears. Throwing codes or damaging the engine.

2009 f53 cat

My catalytic converter was stolen yesterday. I have a 2009 f53 chassis and I cannot find any wires hanging down for an oxygen sensor. Do you believe that there isnít one for my rig? I do see a sensor about a foot down from the header on the pipe.
Thanks for any help or understanding.

In general the pre cat sensor provides critical data for determining the optimal air/fuel mixture by the computer and is part of the closed loop fuel parameters. Perhaps heavy duty trucks didn’t require a post cat o2 sensor in your model year. A dealer could probably tell you.
