Stone chips!

We just had our hood and front bumper replaced due to being hit. All new stuff up front. In North Dakota our GPS took us down a 5 mile gravel rd. We have the original Holiday Rambler mud flap, I would have thought it would be good enough. The from of the jeep looks like it got sand blasted! Had so many stones on the windshield area we had to use a vacuum to clean them off. Need a better stone deflector. Any recommendations?

When folks in a MH are going to Alaska they remove the full-width flap for your exact reason, it does more harm than good.
Regular HD truck mud flaps cut to length (4" above road) behind your duals work much better to deflect stones.

Check the height of the rear flap from the road surface...it needs to be in the 4" range to keep from kicking up gravel as it hits the surface. A fitted mask on the toad should help as well.

We bought Roadmaster’s tow defender (https://www.roadmasterinc.com/produc..._store.php#tow). Only had one significant trip with it (AZ <—> FL keys) but our toad came back without a mark.

I couldn't raise our Newmar Mud Flap so we took it off and since then no stones in the gully between the windshield and hood.

I have flaps behind the rear tires as well as the full length and this seems to work pretty good. I still end up with some chips but I don't think anything will eliminate that entirely.

X2 on the tow defender. We bought one shortly after buying our new Ranger and so far no rock chips.

This complaint comes up often. Many of us have for the best solution is to take the big stone flap off and lean it next to the garage. Mine has been there for 5 years now and still no new stone chips.

The big "mud flap" is there for manufacturer advertising. Not for toad protection.

I have had two motor homes and taken the ad flaps off both. Over 8 years we have been to Alaska twice and towed two new vehicles and have not had any chips. The full length flaps will cause chips.

X3 on the tow defender. When I rigged our 2016 Chevy 1500 4x4 for being towed, it is not approved for a "shield" type of deflector. I got the Tow Defender and wish I had used it all along vs shields.

That said, I also have the full-length mudflap, but raised up to about 5" off the ground and also wide mud flaps behind the tag.

It is kind of like gas mileage. You do everything you can to improve the situation.

The mud flaps inside the fender wells are the first line of defense. But they must be at least as wide as the dual tires, and within 6" of the ground.

The mud flap on the back catches what gets past those, but it must be at least 4" off the ground to keep from it hitting the ground or causing a wind tunnel effect and throwing rocks instead of stopping them.

The tow defender helps protect the window, but could throw rocks back against the motor home.

What to do, what to do.

I have to wonder if certain things even register with people?? Everyone that has removed that big rock thrower seems to have eliminated stone chip damage to their toad. What solution can be more cost effective than that??
