Storage Bay Repair Project

Hi All,

The floor of the electric storage bay on my Monaco Dynasty was severely damaged by a previous owner. As you can see in the pix, the base is cracked out and the access port for the 50A electrical cord is missing:

I decided to replace the floor with a sandwich made of 3/16" HDPE plastic sheeting available on Amazon. The sheets are 12x24, so I cut both sheets down to size on a table saw:

I chose to replace the original 4.5" access port with a marine 5" deck plate, also available on Amazon:

The original access port was centered on the floor, which probably contributed to its demise. The coach has a powered cord reel, and I suspect the cord got caught in the access port while retracting, thus ripping the floor up. (Maybe it was dark?)

I decided to shift the new, larger access port to the right so it better aligns with the cord reel. I clamped both sheets of HDPE together and cut the 5" opening:

Next I pre-drilled mounting holes for the new access port as well as all the other holes for stainless machine screws used to clamp the bottom sheet to the top sheet:

I used 10/24 x 1" and 10/24 x 1.25" machine screws as well as washers and clench nuts purchased at the local hardware store. I dropped the top sheet into the bay, pre-drilled the machine screw holes, marked the new position of the 5" access port with a sharpie, and cut it out with a scrolling Skill saw:

Finally, I added the new access port frame, all the screws, and bolted the matching HDPE plate from below (note that I also added some filler plastic in the area where the old port was located):

The final result is very sturdy:

Now I have a new storage bay floor that I expect will last for the life of the motorhome, which was my project goal.

Great looking repair! My guess is the PO drove off with the cord still attached to the pdestal, not that it matters.
