Storage Shore Power Issue

I have a 19 LADP all electric coach with Silverleaf. I keep it in an enclosed storage space with 20 amp shore power. Not ideal, I know, but it's what I could get. My Silver leaf is set for 15 amp on single phase with 5 amp maximum charging.

Whenever I checked on my coach, the gfci would be tripped and the batteries would be nearly depleted. I decided that the GFCI was going bad so when I put the coach up after returning from a trip this week, I replaced the outlet with a new 20amp GFCI.

Today, I went to load all the towels and sheets back into the coach after washing and the GFCI was tripped. GRRR

I have no issues or faults on shore power or even the 20amp GFCI at my house.

At this point I think I have two options. 1) Replace the gfci outlet with a standard outlet. There is no evidence of any leaks in the unit.

2) Hit the battery disconnect and hook a trickle charger to the house batteries.

Thoughts?

RVs and GFCI protected shore power often do not play well together - usually due to ground fault situations that can be inherent to RVs.

Best to swap out the GFCI or use different non GFCI protected circuit.

If you want to try to isolate a ground fault source. Drop all breakers in the main/sub breaker panel. Then bring them on individually until it trips.

A ground fault likely is occuring when the inverter relay transfers the neutral/ground bonding. It may be timing sensitive - so occurs intermittently.

Note. GFCI do not trip on excess power draw, rather a ground fault. Unless - its current sensor has saturated (ensure charger shore setting is reduced, no air conditioning on, etc). So excess current us a possibility. Ensure all high power draw items are turned off when connecting shore power.

I would just change the outlet out to a good quality 20 amp outlet.

All of my coaches, including my 2019 all electric Dutch Star, have been running on a non GFCI 20 amp outlet for almost 35 years on the side of my house. I don't change any settings on the coach and leave the refer on 24/7/365. I've never had an issue. Living in California, I have more issue with Edison and use the coach to power the house on occasion.

Please note putting a non gfci outlet outside is against code and will be noted and have to be fixed before a sale of the house.

Ask me how I know [emoji12]
