Next thing I'd do then is drain all air off, remove the bolts that hold the canister/filter cover and see if it's saturated with oil.....

If so, obviously it'll need replacement, if not, spray brake cleaner in center of dryer with filter removed, remove supply line and governor control line, clean out with brake cleaner...
Point being try to remove all and as much oil residue as possible.

Put a clean piece of cardboard under dryer and try to determine how much is oil, or water/condensation.

I know that looks like a lot of oil in the spot on concrete, but just a little bit will make a mess.

I just last month "kit rebuilt" mine, replaced purge valve, one-way valve, filter and desicent cartridge, etc ...

Remove the compressor line from the dryer and tie it into a 5 gallon bucket of water.

Start and run the engine at high RPMs for a few minutes, letting the air bubble in the bucket.

After a few minutes, see if any oil is in the water.

If yes, remove air intake hose from compressor and retest with clean water. If still oil, bad compressor, if no oil restricted intake.

Why go to Freightliner?

I have a MB900 diesel rv on Freightliner M2 chassis.
For engine work I go to Allison Transmission as they work
On diesel engines like mine. I use Freightliner for suspension and a/c work. Some Freightliner shops refuse to work on rvs, like Atlanta beltway FL. Try Allison but get confirmed agreed quote on service agreement.

I took this picture this morning.

Before Freightliner replaced my compressor the braided supply line from the compressor ran horizontally, gradually going to the dryer. Now they have created a vertical loop, and put a kink in the line. I wonder if oil from the first replacement compressor, which they said was bad, pumped oil into the two low points in the line
, causing that oil to now be carried into the new dryer.


Note:
The original problem was failure to build air pressure. Before these mechanics started working on it, my motorhome never, ever had a single drop oil oil dripping from anywhere.

Another thing to look at is the line to the intake of your compressor. If it’s blocked or is restricted, your compressor could be pulling oil up past the piston rings.

We always had as straight short line as possible from the intake manifold to the compressor. If there’s a rubber line anywhere, it could have a flapper. Normally compressors are fed with manifold pressure air these days and there’s a valve in the system to prevent turbocharged pressure escaping when the compressor is unloaded (not working.

Just something more to look into.

I went out first thing this morning and dug into this further. First I removed the air filter to get a better look at things. When they installed the new compressor they were unable to lay the braided cable as it originally was configured, and in the process they put a kink and a loop in the line, and left the hose support clamp hanging loose at the compressor end of the hose. Isn't that line to be free of any trapped areas and/or kinks?

They ended up using a couple of zip ties to secure it to a support nearby. I cut the zip ties and tried to reroute it, but I couldn't. I want to replace the braided line with a new one, but I don't know how I can get a wrench on the nut on the compressor end of the line.

I opened up the air dryer and cleaned everything I could see, but there was not much I could do with it. Fortunately, there is still no evidence of oil anywhere beyond the air dryer. I reassembled the dryer with a new Dessicant cartridge, just to be safe.

After I reassembled the dryer I put the compressor discharge hose into a bucket of water and ran the engine for about 15 minutes. There was no sign of oil in the water, as seen in the photo. The dark areas in the bucket are shadows.

Can anyone tell me what the light gray slurry is that comes out of the purge port with the oil? Or could it be that I am not really seeing oil? After driving 400 miles the oil level on the engine dipstick is still where it was when I left.

Something that I have just realized is that the oil or whatever it is coming out of the purge port is not black like diesel engine oil.

I would check the plumbing after the turbo charger and if clean, just go with it.

Compressor manufactures recommend a down hill run for the compressor discharge hose to the dryer. They caution that during winter, any low spots can accumulated water and freeze up, blocking the air flow.

I did check that last week and the intake tube was perfectly clean inside.

Perhaps take a pair of pliers and gently squeeze that kink out of the line....

That line looks like length used on a heavy truck as dryer is usually mounted behind cab and takes 5 or 6 feet of hose to get from compressor.
Probably all Freightliner had in stock that was ready made.

Possible to remove all the clamps/zip ties and reroute it with out removing it from the compressor?

As twinboat noted the loop or low spots in supply line can hold condensation that could freeze in winter causing air supply issues in that type of weather....

You got it cleaned, new filter, no oil in compressor intake pipe or in supply line from engine....

Put the spurs to it. Enjoy your travels!

Yes, ideal is for the air compressor to air dryer hose to ONLY go down hill from compressor to dryer.
