Stranger asks to use the bathroom
Recently, we were in a traffic jam because of an accident, and the traffic was stopped on the highway. A gentleman knocked on our door and wanted to use our bathroom. We told him we didn’t have access to the bathroom while traveling and got very angry and kicked the side coach and left a footprint. What would you have done if you were approached by a stranger to use your bathroom?

Exactly the same thing you did. If he kicked the coach because you wouldn't let him in there's no telling what he would have done if you had let him.

I would turn down anyone wanting to use the bathroom. That's where we keep our meds & other things. Not going to evacuate our bathroom to make it stranger friendly.

Last year, when we were traveling through the State of Oregon, we were told the legislature there was considering implementing a law requiring motorhome owners traveling the highway system to surrender their bathrooms to those stalled in traffic.
We never went back to find out if the abhorrent legislation had been codified.

Absolutely not! As we used to say in the Army “lack of planning on your part, does not constitute and emergency on mine”
We’re in a 5th wheel so we lose our bathroom every time we are away from it. We carry a portable toilet with us virtually everywhere. Have had to use it multiple times.

Google 'byrna' It is a 'less lethal' form of protection. Legal in all 50 states. I have yet to need to use mine other than practice, but the tear gas/pepper spray balls should be very effective. And for those of you that might say don't trust your life with that....I agree...so have other forms of protection that suit you personally. Let's please not begin an argument about the use of such things. I believe each individual should have the right to do as they desire for their own situations.

Great responses! I have pondered what we would do in that situation and I believe I would respond similarly.
Would you walk down a sidewalk in a residential neighborhood and knock on a random door and ask to use their facilities?

I guess I am too nice. For me It would depend on the circumstances. If the request came from someone with a small child, a pregnant wife, an elderly person or someone else equally incapable of waiting or, as someone suggested, using the bushes I would acquiesce. It would also be dependent upon location, how long it would appear the traffic jam would last etc. I think I am a good enough judge of character to weed out the very very unlikely criminal, stuck in a traffic jam, who sees it as an opportunity to cause harm even though there is no possibility of escape.

Maybe
I posed this question to my wife. Her response was it depends. If we thought the person looks respectable enough then maybe we would. Would I worry about them attacking us, no - because I would be prepared for that. Nothing in my toilet room that I would worry about them stealing. We don't keep meds in that cabinet. As someone else said, a woman with a small child, pregnant, or an elderly person probably no concern. Then again you never know so I hope I never have to make the decision.
Someone mentioned a woman not being able to go in the bushes. I disagree; my wife was about 8 months pregnant years ago on a trip in the car. We were in the middle of nowhere on a 2-lane headed towards Atlanta and she had to go. You don't tell a pregnant woman no, so I pulled on the side of the road and she went in the woods. Maybe some are too good to do that but when you gotta go you gotta go.
