Stuff in the ceiling is MELTING!!!

Hello from Kansas,

Thanks in advance for any experience you have with this issue!

We have a 2007 National Pacifica QS40C 40' Diesel Pusher - Cat 350. We have put about 2500 miles on it in the last 2 months.

We drove about 4 hours today from Lake of the Ozarks into Kansas. I had my two back vents open in an experiment to see if it would be cooler but it actually made things hotter. It was very hot up front even with the dash AC blasting. Average temp outside was about 90 degrees.

Upon arrival. my dear wife, who is always the one to notice things that are wrong or that I need to fix, points to a plastic air vent in the very back and its all sagging as if melted. Not burned, just deformed. Same thing with the plastic light fixture in the back closet. Super hot back in that closet as that is the very back of the rig.

I'm about to investigate more but wanted to put this out there to see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks Much!!

James Hall

JUst dash A/C

Hi Twomed,

Thanks for checking in. No, I didn't run the generator or the house aircons. I recently recharged the dash AC and we've been very happy just blocking off the cab with a sheet.

Prior to the recharge, I was running the generator and house aircons.

I've noticed that my rear camera is not sending a signal anymore either. It is very close to the melted light (which still works!) in the closet and the melted vent.

Just a wild guess but wondering if driving down the road with both roof vents open created enough low pressure inside the coach that you sucked up engine heat esp if the engine access seals are compromised. I know that if I drive our journey with the roof vents open we suck up waste tank smells.

yep

Hey neub,

That's what I am now thinking. It was an experiment gone very wrong. I believe you are correct in that I was drawing heat in.

Sounds like a 12 volt issue too much voltage frying the circuits. I would check the voltage for sure.

Can't be a whole lot of help here, but we usually run down the road with the generator running and at least the front A/C on. We always have our kid with us, so dash A/C just won't cut it.

Once the temps get over around 85 degrees we start the genset and turn both roof ACs on. The rear engine generates a tremendous amount of heat and it's no fun trying to cool the MH down when it's time to go to bed.

Assuming the two back vents are in the roof and also not right at the rear of the roof, it is hard to imagine how any significant heated air could get from the engine which is lower down, up and forward into the vents and then back inside to the rear cupboard..
