Sumo Install
For anyone who has installed sumo springs on there Motor home, I have a question. Did you have to remove the rear tires to install them? Going to install them and was just wondering what tools I need to bring home from work.
They are going on a Newmar CS 26,000 lb. coach. Thanks in advance

I installed the Sumos on my Sprinter chassis and did not need to remove the rear wheels. Just jacked up the chassis rail and let the dual wheel hang to allow the Sumo to install between the chassis and the axle. Make sure and use a safety stand in addition to the jack. I also did the front where I did need to remove the wheel.
Check out YouTube for lots of videos showing install on different chassis types.

Please give us an update on how it improves the ride. This is on my list once we get our Class A for full time. Still have four years until the youngest goes to college.

Well, I installed sumo springs front and rear today's. Took it for about a 75 mile trip, just couldn't stand it. OMG. The difference is unbelievable. Even before getting on the main road and still in the park, which is all paved and smooth the difference was incredible. Even the dw felt it, so much she thought something was wrong. Lol. Picked up a friend and his wife on the way out the park and went for a short drive. No more (none) dips and sways when I turn. Hardly no push from passing trucks. It is really a totally different coach. So glad that I did this. At one time I looked down and was actually driving with only one hand on the wheel. That doesn't happen very often. So, final review. Totally worth it. Even passengers on the couch could really tell a difference. Lot's less noisy also.
If any one has any questions I would be glad to help. Not that I know it all. But this board and some of these people have really helped me.

Bobby,
I have been expressing exactly your findings for a couple of years now. Maybe now , everyone that thinks I'm just blowing smoke up their tailpipe will think differently. Thanx for the accurate follow up. Enjoy driving that tamed beast!!!

Mine went up close to an inch. The ride and handling was greatly improved. The best part was not hearing all the rattles inside, as before.

Great info everyone.... thanks!!
It seems the suspension on some of these newer gassers leaves something to be desired. Spending a few bucks for such a great improvement seems like a no-brainer.

The amount that the summo's will raise the coach is mostly correlated to how close the chassis is to being maxed out. On my terra 35k ,with a 22000lb chassis, I have an occc of over 5000 lbs, I carry what's needed, enough tools to fix just about anything, weighed all stuff before loading into cargo holds, spread weight out as much as possible, front to back and side to side. I also weighed most items inside, like pots and pans etc. does not come close to max, so the chassis is riding slightly higher, thus making only a small height change (1/2") after summo's were installed. The summo's are not intended to change chassis height so much as they improve ride quality. On a coach that's heavy on the chassis that it's built on,thus a lower occc rating, the summo's might make a bigger difference in ride height. I would not recommend buying summo's with the intent of raising the chassis, but improving the ride, the slight ride height change is incidental.
