Surge Guard - something different!

Have a 50 amp Surge Guard that I have been using for almost a year. Has worked well. Parked in a campground with the breaker off and the 1st LED comes on - Red. No others are on. Turn the post breaker on and all the LED's come on with the 1st LED sorta red (1/2 half mixed brightr but not like bright red with the breaker off). Never had this happen before. Took my small meter and checked voltages and all seemed ok (no voltage, 120 both legs, 240 across) but I didn't like what I saw on the surge guard so I didn't connect to coach. Tried opposite post and got the same results. Tried going on line and searching Surge Guard for possible indications but they have nothing for any indication with the breaker off. Do say L1/L2 and neutral reversed with a 1st Red LED when breaker on.

Does anyone have an idea why I would get LED lite with the breaker off? What is it trying to tell me about the post power?

Thanks, Steve

Steve, I would try it in a different row in a different area of the campground.

To clarify, with the post breaker turned off the Surge Guard indicated that power was still available (because something had to power the LED)? Did you have the other end plugged into your rig? (I'm guessing not.)

I agree with MSHappyCampers. Find an unoccupied space to test it, possibly a 3rd one. If it does it on all 3, may be a problem with the unit. If it's OK on the other sites, ask the campground management to test your power post.

surge guard mystery

Well, we've moved on and the surge guard works correctly at our new campground. We were in Liberty Harbor RV Park, we just used the 30amp as I didn't trust the 50 amp power. I did talk to the office but they did not do anything (even though they said they would have it checked out - probably typical of anything at that park - if you can call a parking lot an RV park!). I really was more curious as to what might have caused that issue (since there was no way I was going to use the 50amp there - thankfully it was cool and we didn't need both A/C units) so I would know in the future what was wrong/whether it was ok to use since my 50 amp electrical experience is limited. I did not try any of the other power poles since it wasn't a issue with 30 amp available so I do not know if it was a problem throughout but most coaches were plugged to 30 amp. Since we were there only 3 nights (over the weekend), I didn't make a scene and knew we were leaving. At $110 per night you would think they would do better!! but it is NYC!
Thanks for the replies... Steve
