surge protecter
Well after 11 years without a surge protector, I finally got zapped. After a $400 repair I need a surge protector. After a internet search it seems that Camping World has as good a deal as any. Need input on which one to buy and is security for it.

Progressive Industries with EMS is the best on the market. Best price varies, do a Google search.
A hardwired version is the best security and one less thing to hook and unhook.

Many people tout the TRC Surge Guard models, until recently they only had a 1 year warranty where all Progressive units are a lifetime warranty. TRC was recently brought out by Southwire and they are redesigning the product line and a lifetime warranty. However, there is no history as of yet.
The other point is that any surge protector less than the EMS protections is less protecting. You get what you pay for and this is one item where it will pay for itself when a problem occurs.

Third vote for a Progressive unit. We had ours installed by the dealer before we even took delivery.

I really don't want to have it wired in so I could take it with me if I trade.

You are correct. CW is a nice wish book but even on sale, you can always find a better price. Not to mention that many of their products are exclusive to them and usually lesser quality.

You got off very easy with a $400.00 dollar repair. Usually it will run into the thousands of dollars. I have had 2 TRC units and 1 Progressive unit. Plus I had a TRC unit in place and loss several electric items in our motorhome. My TRC unit didn't shutdown. I then bought a Progressive unit. I bought the portable 50 amp unit and very happy with it. They can be locked to the pedestal pole. I like being able to carry it to a pedestal and check the pedestal with out pulling the RV into place, plus if you change RV's you can take it with you. Customer service is great with Progressive and non existing at TRC.

I have the Progressive portable. Had it when we had the 5er. Took it with me when we went with the MH. I wired the portable into the electric bay, just after the 50A wire reel. The heavy duty wire was fun to mess with but if I trade this I can take it or leave it.

Buy 2of each male and female plugs and wires those in so that when it comes time to move on, you remove it and just plug the factory wiring back together.....

An added benefit of the hardwired PI unit is the remote display. You can see at anytime the voltage being delivered and the current you are using. And when a problem is detected, the error code explaining it.
