Surge protection

Twice in a surge situation my dirt devil central vac. Has blown the control board. It is on a gfci circuit. Can I add a plug in surge protector to end this problem.

Maybe! Most of those plug-in surge protectors aren't very efficient, but certainly better than nothing. For the cost it's worth a try!

Are you using the Dirt Devil on a modified sine wave (MSW) house inverter? If that's the case, it may be causing your issue. If you've actually been hit by two surges, why not install a unit for the coach.

If you're talking about a "surge suppressor" that looks like a power strip they're generally pretty useless except as a power strip. A GFI does nothing for surges, they are designed to keep you from electrocuting yourself. Your problem may have also been caused but low voltage. Much more likely in an RV park Good luck.

Does it blow on shore power or inverter power ?

Some cheap PSW inverters surge when first loaded heavy. I had one that would blow up power strips, with surge protections.
After the 3rd powerstrip burnt, I replaced the inverter.

Would you please explain what happened in those two surge situations? Absent a very close lightning strike a true surge is almost unheard of due the protections already built into the power grid. That's why houses rarely have surge protection.
