Surge Protectors

Bought a 2015 bounder from lady that lost her husband and did not know anything about the RV.
I am new to Motorhomes.

Was looking online about surge protectors, Saw a lot about the Progressive Industries HW50C Hardwired EMS .
So I bought one and installed it today .
Everything works great BUT..
This is where I'm either going to get laughed at or shouted at or?
I had not paid attention to it but on the wall in the bedroom is a Surge Guard 50A Hardwire Automatic Transfer Switch, then looking in one of the bays and saw the Surge Guard 40350-RVC Hardwire Automatic Transfer Switch that goes with it.
Does the Progressive Industries HW50C Hardwired EMS and the Surge Guard 40350-RVC do two different things ?

The photo is a stock 30A photo not the exact one.

Yup, looks like you were already protected because the previous owner replaced (or installed) an ATS that also provides pedestal protection.. Now you're doubly protected.

Trust me, your mistake was about $700 less than the one I just made. And I don't even end up with double the protection.

It happens. Neither of us were left stranded on the side of the road by our mistakes.

The transfer switch /surge gaurd is all in one solution ATS and surge gauge with display or multiple displays, I believe. Stand alone ems Surge guard only disconnects after genny or pedestal . You seem to have dual protection, unless one is bad and in bypass mode. The surge boards are sacrificial to a large surge like a fuse and replaceable in both as well as others serviceable parts.
Have you located both main components not just the displays. It just make me wonder if displays are compatible and one unit having dual displays is all.
You can find vids and manuals on both. I don't think you need second or third surge guard so maybe you can return it.

I don't know about the progressive industries but the hughes power watchdog disconnects with low or high voltage. Then reconnects once it's back to normal. Really a nice feature, if your new one has it and the old one doesn't you might consider replacing it anyway.

Thanks.
I don't know if the one that came with the RV has that feature but right now everything seems to be ok.

I guess the thing with these protectors one does not know if it works until something happens !

I did the same thing. Congratulations to both of us. If the Progressive gets fried because of an electrical problem you are still protected!
