Suspension Mods, 2012 Open Road

New to me 2012 Allegro Open Road. Previous owner had Steer Safe installed. I do not know any other suspension mods except Bilstein shocks which may be original equipment. How do I tell if the sway bars have been changed? I cannot tell stock from aftermarket. I am considering Sumo springs, good, bad? Suggestions...... Anything else to minimize body roll?

If the rig has an F53 Ford chassis, do the CHF modification. There is a huge thread on this in the F53 forum as a sticky. Every possible question has been answered there.

There are a ton of threads on this but the general consensus usually ends up with a combination of the following:

• Front Steering Stabilizer
• Koni FSD Shocks - all around
• Sumo Springs
• Rear Track Bar
• Aftermarket Anti-Sway Bars
• Cheap Handling Fix (CHF)

We had the CHF originally then added a rear track bar (tried new Bilstein shocks too) then Sumo Springs then we went and had an Alignment, Koni Shocks and the CHF was backed out which is where we sit now.

When you said the Koni shocks and CHF was backed out, do you mean taken back off? Bilsteins did not help?

CHF - backed out, yes, the alignment shop put the swaybar back to stock setting after doing the other work.


Bilsteins were too harsh. The Koni's dampen in both directions where the Bilsteins didn't. If you are considering going to aftermarket shocks spend the few extra dollars on Koni.


I didn't swap out any of the anti-sway bars because I thought the track bar did a good job stiffening things up in the back (getting rid of the tail wag)
