Every cable attached to a positive post must be reconnected to a positive post, same for every negative cable. Then use a cable to tie the positive of one battery to the negative of the other.
You may wind up with an extra cable which is fine.

Take all of the positive cables off the 2, 12 volt batteries.

One is a jumper so put that aside.

You should now have 3 cables to put on the FIRST 6 volt battery positive terminal.

Take the negative cables off the 2, 12 volt batteries. One will be a jumper so put it aside. Looks like you will have 3.

Put all of the negetive cables on the negetive post of the SECOND 6 volt battery.

Last but not least, take one of the jumpers, you put aside, and use it to go from negetive of the FIRST battery,to the positive of the SECOND battery. There should not be any other cables on them two.

Store the last jumper and your done.

I just changed my batteries just over a month ago from 12 volt to 6 volt. Just keep track of the positive and negative wires. In order for all of lines to reach the right post, one set of positive & negative post will face the rear of the coach. The power lines will attach to them. The positive lines will connect to the positive post on the passenger side and the negatives on the driver side.

The post that face the front of the coach will be use for putting the batteries in serial (a wire connects to positive the negative post.) Do not add any other power lines to these post or you will short out one of you coach solenoids, or at least I did.

Twinboat has pretty much got it covered. Mark your positive and negative cables before removing them. The battery on the left is the first one. When installing the 6 volt batteries, install them both with the negative terminals on the left side. All the negative cables will go on the negative terminal of the left battery , and the positive cables should go on the positive terminal of the right battery. you should have a positive and negative terminal with no connections. Take one of the jumper cables and connect them together.
Be very careful that the wrenches do not contact any metal part or other battery terminal when tightening the battery terminals.

Some 6V batty hook ups have 2 jumper wires between the battys. In my mind thats the best place to store the second jumper. If you ever need or decide to go back to 12V you have the jumper right where it is needed.

There's not a first or second per se but what you designate. There's really no difference between the two and you could remove one of the 12 volt batteries and everything would still work.

Once you have decided how the new batteries will fit and be oriented with their positive and negative terminals right, left, or right and left so that all the original cables reach their designated terminals, using the cable between them to create an additive 6 volts for a total of 12 is what matters.

@ jarata

Twinboat nailed a clear and concise procedure.

Follow it and you will be fine.
