Question T c m with allison, workhorse, and a 8.1

Hi there, needed replace my tcm/pcm after it blew fuses i sought out help to verify it was the tcm and it is. So i have two different no. 29537441 & 15768288....the later one is i guess the new replacement. Not able to get one then found one at a junk yard of all places!!! They assure that the duramax and the chevy gas 8.1 takes the same part but needs to be reprogrammed,,,,has anyone been thru this. Thanks in advance....wizard0520

Given the cost of rebuilding an Allison, I would be very leary of having the TCM replaced by anybody other than an Allison ASC. If you are being told the "junk yard" TCM will need to be "reprogrammed" anyway, why not just go to Allison dealer and hold them responsible to do the job right the first time?

Something broke in the Allison in my 3500 GMC. Nobody could touch it as Allison seems to have a strangle hold on the transmissions. I got a Allison reman for $3500 installed at the GM dealership. You may be able to find a whole unit at a salvage yard, but the price would probably make a reman more attractive. At that time, we were planning on a big honkin 5er so the best solution for durability was the best solution for us. A 36K / 36 month warranty was given. The 36 months have long passed, and the truck will probably never see the 36K miles.

Try Bazels RV in Washington state. He knows what their doing. They even have a RV chassis dyno to check the actual performance of the ECM and TCM.
