Tankless Water Heaters

My 34 yr old Atwood 6 gallon is leaking and needs to be Heli arched and this could be done where I work but, am leaning to replace with a tankless unit like the Girard or the Furrion ones, I have read much about the controversy surrounding these on forums both good and bad. How are some of you liking them?

Girard Products Model GSWH-2 on two motorhomes have worked very well without an issue.

We have a Truma on our Discovery. So far, it works flawlessly, but it does use a very small amount of propane to keep it ready by heating a very small "on call" tank. I wish it had an electric element to keep its "on call" readiness available without any propane being used until a demand at the faucet is made.
Installation seems to be a breeze because of its smaller size as well. A win, win situation.

I’m into my second year with a Girard water heater and have enjoyed it. We don’t boondock so it works great for us.

Do you camp in cold weather? I've considering one of these but have been getting mixed reviews, even on the ones with the cold weather package.

I would say if you're a mostly FHU camper, an on-demand WH is the way you should go.

If you're mostly a boondocker, then you probably won't like burning a gallon of water waiting for it to warm up.

If you do both like us, then it's a tossup. We opted to go for it, accepting that we'd be carrying some extra water in the toad just in case.
