Question Tar stains

Hi all, I just finished scrubbing my 93 Winne Vectra with barkeeper's friend and a white scrubbie so I can put on Zep wet look floor finish. It looks pretty good, but there are a bunch of small tar dots on the pass side that have stained the fiberglass. The top of these spots pops right off, but there is a black stain about the size if a pencil lead left that will not come off. I have tried adhesive remover, paint thinner, bug and tar remover, but no luck. Any ideas???

My dad used to use gasoline on tar on the car. I'd be very careful though & test it on an inconspocuous spot so as not to damage a finish in a place that's noticeable.

I used a product by Turtle Wax called, you guessed it, Tar Remover. It worked real well and did not effect the Finnish. I think I would be very careful using gasoline both for the Finnish and Safety.

Try WD40 to remove tar, grease, sticky glue etc. It's safer than using gasoline!Just wash and rinse the surface afterwards. If you use it on fiberglass you might want to rewax the area afterwards.

It might not be tar, there are fungus that look like tar and leave stains. Hope you can get the stain off.

Tar remove

Don't use gasoline for several reasons. Safety, and I used some and I think it contributed to breaking down/crazing my Diamond Shield adhesive covering on the front if my old Monaco.

I would have a go with LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner. I find this will take care of both grease and glue, so why not tar as well.

If it doesn't work (which would surprise me) the attempt will have cost you 1 Dollar if you buy the product at Dollar Tree, and I am sure that you will find all sorts of other purposes for it.

Give it a whirl - there is nothing to loose except for maybe a little bit of tar

The auto parts stores handle a product called "Goo Begone" for tar removal. Also, some stores have "Marine and RV black streak removal" in a spray bottle.

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions. So far nothing has worked, I think that the tar has been baked into the fiberglass by the sun. I just bought the MH, and it had been sitting outside for quite some time, and hadn't been cleaned for longer than that! Other than these small spots, it has cleaned up very well.

This will remove the tar - even if it is baked in. I guarantee.

You might try some rubbing compound with a electric polisher on those tar shadows.
