Same here. My examiner basically talked me through the air brake test, which I had already practiced. It was a great help to get through with guidance so I didn't forget anything. She also did the full equipment check before we started.

I took same test at Livingston TX last year. Air brake test is not required for a non commercial class B. Test was no big deal. Hardest part is backing up between cones that were narrower than normal driving lane. Like already stated the tester has nothing to do with enforcement so how you get there is not a concern. If you have a driving liscence you are good to go.

Backing up between cones? I had to back up in a lane that must have been 25 feet wide! I guess they are consistently inconsistent.

I had to parallel park! (but it was easy as they gave you a ton of space and with a backup camera and good mirrors it's super easy).

I think what I was doing was parallel parking, but the cones were 150' apart because big rigs used the same ones.

Where did you take your driving test in Austin? I contacted the Austin-Denison location and they said they are only conducting CDL drives.

Texas is one of the states that requires an upgraded license to operate an RV above a specified GVWR. These license are called Non-CDL(Commercial Driver License) and are designated as Class A or Class B. You must get the appropriate license for your specific RV.
See below for Non-CDL Class A and B Exempt Vehicle test sites. Also the Texas Drivers Handbook does a good job of explaining what and who is exempt from a CDL(Commercial Driver License). It can be found online at
https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/
(Non-CDL) Class A and B Exempt Vehicles Test Sites
You may schedule a skills test at one of the following driver license offices if you will be operating a Class A (combination) or B (straight) vehicle which does not require you to possess a CDL.
The vehicle categories which may be tested at these locations are listed below. Any commercial motor vehicle that does not meet one of these categories may only be used for testing at one of the 25 consolidated CDL skills testing sites listed here.
Farm Truck
- Operated by a farmer for transportation to or from a farm for a distance of no more than 150 miles
- Truck must not be used in the operation of a motor transportation company
Public Safety Vehicle
- Vehicles used to provide transportation or emergency medical service for ill or injured people
- Firefighting Equipment
Recreational Vehicle
- Vehicles defined as recreational vehicles and used exclusively for purposes other than engaging in business or profit, such as a motorhome
Vehicles driven by Military Personnel for a Military Purpose
- Operated by any member or uniformed employee of the armed forces of the United States or reserve components
Be sure you have all of the required documents.
Before you arrive at your scheduled appointment, bring an acceptable proof of identification and current insurance on the vehicle in which you are testing.

Too bad Marble Falls is no longer on the list, after the 2016 re-organization. I took mine (Class A) there in 2012 as a walk-in. Had to go have breakfast at the Bluebonnet Cafe and come back in an hour for the test.

I know, I have one. The point is you take the driving test at the same place where the class A and B CDL applicants take the test. You can take the written test at any licensing office.
I don't know what that list is, but you can only take the driving test at 25 centers across the state. I took it at Waco.

DW just took the test in Livingston. She passed the driving with a 100%.
Have noticed RV dealers say different things about a class b license. I believe an easy way to know you need it is if your motorhome has a GVWR over 26,000 pounds.
