Just thought i would throw this in at the end. My last coach had 19 1/2 inch tires. I had a blow out in New Brunswick, and it took me over a day and three cities later to find a replacement. The 22.5 inch are more common and easier to find. We traveled with friends, and they had no where for a spare in their coachmen dp. We took out the rear floor in the toad and stood up the donut spare. With the fake floor out and the donut stood up, it made room for the 22.5 to stand up in the back of his toad under the hatchback. This way we could still get four in the car and didnt have to put the heavy tire in and out of the car.

I also have 19.5 tire, I wanted to put a spare between the chassis rail behind the fuel tank, but the tire is 33" and the space between the rail is 31 or 32, so it would need to be pried with a crowbar or something? It's hard and heavy...

I don't think you can get between them, but snugged up to them is my goal.

As said in previous post I am building my own spare tire carrier. I feel I need to at least have a spare due to the remote areas I visit. My tire size is 235/80/R22.5 witch is sometimes hard to find. I have every thing needed to change a tire. I can call for road service if I have cell service, but usually don't have service in remote areas of Nevada.

Do you have a torque wrench multiplier?

Yes I have a torque wrench multiplier and a one inch impact. Plus plenty of air and jacks. I have changed tires on my previous RV as well as helping others on the side of the road. Do I want to change it, no but sometimes where I go you have no choice.

I feel more comfortable carrying a spare, I may never need it (and that's good and OK) but if I do need it I have it and maybe if I see one of you that don't carry one and need it, it may be available.
Here is what I have.

22.5" tire mounts under frame rails. I'm looking for a picture of the tire mounted under there but haven't found it yet.
Here's a link to how I built it and more pictures. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f105/tire...er-301224.html

Question. - do you have any other safety chain holding it beyond the wench cable?

Yes, I have two bolts, double nuted, from the channel through the wheel lug holes. That's a lot of weight for that cable to support while traveling down the road.

Will take care of a typical puncture... but not a 'wildly' blown tire.

This is only good to get you to the repair shop to have it repaired correctly

I'll add my 2 cents about spare tire (40' Monaco pusher, 6 tires and don't think all rims are interchangeable - 22.5). My tire guy suggested that most guys doing road service can change any tire out on the road, but may not be able to bring my tire size along. He suggested unmounted tire, which I carry in basement compartment. It will fit all rims and he can do it on the road. That's enough comfort for me.

If all your tires are the same size, then the rims are the same size. But your inside drive axle wheels might be steel, but the will still fit at any position.
My rig has different steer and tag tires/wheels than the drive tires/wheels, but my inside drive wheels are aluminum, unlike most.

I threw this together quickly. The unmounted 19.5" tire rides in the back of the Grand Cherokee, and this covers the tire and still gives us some usable room to put things back there (groceries). I am in the process of adding legs so that I will have two levels of storage. The lower area is completely hidden from the outside, once the hatch is closed. I like the idea of a carrier, but don't have the tools to pull that one off.
