Thor Hurricane Blower Motor Problems/Possible Solution
I refently purchased a motorhome from a friend. It was six years old with 8300 miles. Like all things, I looked at everything to improve the ride and correct what I perceived to be issues. On the first trip I noticed an issue with the ac blower. The volume of air coming from the system was only noticeable when your hand was touching the register/vent.
I went to the forums and immediately started doing research. The two most common issues mentioned were replacing the resistor and/or the blower. I replaced both items because they were relatively cheap, and it did nothing. So, I checked and removed every fuse and relay on the system. Oddly, enough when the ignition was on the air would still blow in the same manner, which initially caused me to scratch my head.
After looking at different diagrams, I discovered that the hvac has constant power that is tied into the ignition, so even with all the fuses removed there was enough current to slightly produce air. Based on that, I figured something may be wrong with the blower control switch (the one that controls the fan speed).
I removed the engine cover and attempted to disconnect the pigtails. Once I grabbed the plug two of the wires that appeared connected fell out because they were never completely inserted into the pig tail. One of the wires was the red power wire. I was able to locate a wire diagram that shows the location were there wires should go. The red wire on my coach plugged into the top left (passenger side) of the pigtail if you are looking at the back of the switch. Once that was done the problem was solved. The blower now works as it was intended at all speeds.
One other thing I've noticed with Thor is that the manufacturer does not check connections on the items they install. In fact, I have found several lose wires and items not mounted properly on my coach.
Anyway, I apologize for the long post, but I hope this helps someone and saves them time and money.
