Incoming!

To quote Clint Eastwood (edited), "Do you feel lucky, well do you?

For the money, we prefer older, well maintained, higher-end coaches.

Thor is NOT what you would call a quality manufacturer.

I have a Thor and pull a pick up behind it.

That way I can collect all of the parts that fall off it.

i have a 2013 thor gas coach.
i found that if you get the coach at a good price and that the chassis and engine are in good shape and your ready to fix and upgrade all the coach stuff that's going to come up then by all means consider it.

Sounds like a Thor is an excellent value. For the price you get 2 new hobbies.
1. You get the RV lifestyle.
2. You get a full time hobby fixing it as it falls apart.

Let me start by saying I don't have a Thor so I can't give you first hand advise.

This is a video that was posted, so if you do proceed make sure you take a good hard look before paying buying.

That was funny right there. It's very sad the quality that is allowed to leave the factories anymore. This issue is not limited to one or two brands. You have to be extra cautious with all of them.

My advice is to use the Owners Forums right here on irv2 and read, read, read. You will see patterns of pervasive issues pop up you need to be aware of and check out on any brand you are considering.

The Newmar forum has been so helpful to me as almost every quality issue discussed for the time period of my coach was actually a defect I then searched for and found before it caused me an issue. And Newmar has one of the better quality reputations. I've read plenty of the Thor horror stories, but all of them can and do have issues.

That video was classic! I have no experience with Thor but I am sure there are other newer brands that have similar faults. Models from 2000 to 2010 seem to be the sweet spot for quality. Good luck!

Having bought both a Thor ACE new and a Newmar BSS new I experienced teething problems in both. That being said, the Thor was hands down the most problematic—lots of loose screws, repairs of low quality materials and replacements. However, the Thor was more thoughtfully designed. It had lots of clever storage and features that I wish the Newmar had. After 6 years of ownership, the Thor was still a work in progress but after <30 days of 18 months ownership the BSS was fine.
Sooo execution of the design, quality materials and quality control is key. The Thor is a lot of bang for the buck I would not buy another Thor.

It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize that you are in a hurry.

Friend had a Thor and it was a good coach. Looked to be well built, solid and not a lot of maintenance.

If you purchase any coach you will be experiencing maintenance.

If you look at the failure rate Thor may not be any worse than the rest of the manufacturers.

If you are buying used you should be able to look at the condition of the unit to see any defects, etc that are visible.

A high school shop class can build a better motorhome than Thor!
