Thor Vegas thoughts and suggestions?

hi All. New to the forum, but have been RV'-ing for a little while with a Coachman 5th wheel and a Chevy 2500 diesel PU. Sold off both as the truck was getting a bit on the old side and we want to try a new approach.

We are considering later model Thor Vegas 24.1 because the floorplan seems suitable to our needs and the unit is budget friendly. Looking to flat tow a Jeep Wrangler 2-door sport.

So curious from anyone as to their experiences for this model. I fully get just about anything will have some kind of issue and I have already become well used to bringing along a toolkit and expectations to have to use it...

Dealer says 8000lb rating for towing but that seems a little optimistic. Any thoughts on realistic towing from the group?

Anyone encountered any more major issues to keep an eye out for? I like the Vegas features such touchscreen control panel and the electric front bunk lowering mechanism but it seems any issue that could crop up with these might be harder for quick field-fixes.

Or general thoughts. Many kind thanks in advance

I have been very happy with my 2021 Thor Axis 24.1- same coach as Vegas. Not the best build quality, but I have fixed all of those issues myself.

If its on a E450 chassis it can pull 8000 lbs.

I pull close to 5000 lbs with my 2017 Axis 25.2 with no problems.

hi folks, thanks for the quick replies and useful suggestions from the group. We were also looking at the Thor ACE series and some other manufacturers based on the Ford F53 chassis. There seem to be a lot of thoughts on drive-ability on the F53...many have added stabilizer and anti-sway aftermarket parts. Might it be better to stick with the E450 chassis or is it not a big concern.....thanks for any thoughts in advance

We bought a 2016 Vegas 24.1 new and had it for a year before moving to a larger rig.
Floor plan was great , lots of power , easy to drive and maneuver and it looked nice.
However , the one 15k ac could not keep up on a hot day. The overhead bunk was noisy as hell when driving. Lots of electrical issues in the battery charging dept and the chassis battery would frequently go dead when parked and plugged in .
The shower was too small .
The whole rig was a great design and very large inside considering its small outside dimensions. We really liked it but Thor quality is not the best and we had frequent small failures like the bottoms falling out of drawers and tank heating pads that fell off and dragged under the rv.
Again a nice design but poorly executed by Thor.

THor Vegas 24.1

I have owned a 2016 Axis 24.1 since 2016 and traveled 37k miles in it including 2 trips from TN to AK and back towing a Ford Escape that weighed 4,000 pounds. Great little class A. Even though the hitch is rated for 8,000 pounds the max gross weight of the camper will not allow that much combined weight. My Axis 24.1 was bulit on the Ford E-450 chassis , most come with an E-350 Chassis with max weight of 12,500 pounds. The E-450 is 14,000 max. Check your placards and figure how much weight the chassis will tow safely. No trouble with electric bunk, the V-10 engine and tranny performed well. . Nick in TN.
