Tiffin and Frameless Windows

Looks to me that all other class A manufactures have switched to frameless windows......except Tiffin (at least in their gas models). Do they know something the rest of us don't? When a premiere manufacturer does something contrary to industry trends it leads you to believe it's intentional.

All of the Tiffin coaches have framed windows it's just in the Phaetons, Buses and Zephyr they stripe and paint the frames. Many of us don't care for the frameless windows and prefer the airflow of sliders. Our friends have another brand with the frameless windows and they have already had two closing mechanisms fail and one glass shatter for no apparent reason.Just my $0.02 and others will certainly vary.

For me the big reason is the air flow. Glad my Tiffin is "old fashioned"

I've got frameless and am not a fan. If a rock gets kicked up and hits a corner or edge it can shatter the tempered glass. Plus as was noted, they don't really open to provide effective air flow. (sigh)

I have had both, and much prefer the tiffin ones over the others. Like others have said the air flow is much better.

Yes, it is intentional. The frameless ones have numerous problems....falling out, coming unglued, water infiltration, crank out gears stripping, lack of airflow unless using a vent fan & the list goes on. Yes, they provide a lean/clean look to the outside but at a cost.

In 20 years of owning RV's with framed/sliding windows, I never once had an issue with them. Count me among the happy Tiffin owners with framed/slider windows that I can open wide.

Good to Know... But I don't need any more reasons to stay with Tiffin.

I think the frameless windows are actually a cost reduction foisted upon the RV community as an "upgrade". The same thing with the keyless ignitions on the new cars; the solution to a question that no one asked. I betcha the electronic key "fob" is cheaper than a traditional ignition lock and key.

End of rant and apologies for a slight thread hijack.

I've had sliders for almost 20 years on coach's & never a problem. When I got my Dutch Star 4 years ago I thought the frameless looked cool. Lack of air flow was noticed early on, then a issue with open/close linkage (luckily under warranty), then an actual broken window. Broken window just happened on our fall trip to YNP. Ordered replacement over a month ago ($270 ARGHH) & still waiting. I guess I'm less of a fan of frameless at this point

Another reason we love our old Winnebago with its dual-glass sliders! If I was ever going to replace this coach I would be going with a Tiffin just for this reason. But I imagine over time Tiffin will cave & join the others just my thoughts.

Had a frameless window on our Seneca blow out going down the freeway at 65mph. Flew off into the fast lane and shattered when it hit the pavement. Luckily it didn’t hit any vehicles!! Jayco ended up replacing the window under warranty after battling with them for a month.

We had all our windows open today. It was great. I was reminded how big the openings were. So glad Tiffin gives you real windows you can use.

The only thing good about frameless windows is they are easier to wash.

One of the must haves for us when upgrading were large sliding windows that open 50%. The frameless windows may not be cheaper but most do not have a window awning over them (saving money) relying on the deeper tint for sun shading and a tilting small window to keep the rain out.
Kind of dirty after 7 weeks on the road.
