Tilt Steering Mechanism Broke

The tilt steering mechanism broke on my 2016 Freightliner Thor Venetian. The pivot arm on the release mechanism broke off. I can release it manually by forcing a screwdriver in the mechanism and moving the steering column.
I’ve never heard of this problem with any vehicle. Is this something only Freightliner can repair?

Mine is probably different, it is a Douglas Auto Tech steering column. I have a parts diagram for mine and was able to find a replacement. Looks like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/30390526003...EAAOSwu8Bdj2mU

Looking closely at the pictures it looks like the lever is welded to the base portion that locks the steering column.

Look at your steering column, there should be some identification on it.

You might have to call Freight Liner.

Or you can remove and try to fix.

I agree with Jim's advice to call FCCC in Gaffney.

(800) 385-4357 ...or FCCC - Contact Us

Give them your VIN and other information about your coach and they can tell you the part number or give you advice on what needs to be done and where to have it done if you can't get to Gaffney.

Tilt Steering Mechanism Broke

I called Freightliner and gave them my VIN. The Tilt Steering column is part number is 452262X2. However they do not have any in stock and cannot even order any. He said my best bet to find one would be in a junk yard.
I may have to try to rig mine so it will work.Click image for larger version

I adjusted mine so i don't have to tilt and un-tilt it every time I get behind the wheel. Less wear and tear means less problems. Everything mechanical will break eventually.
I was also made it so it adjusts further down for better viewing of the instruments.

Post a picture of the part that is broken off, sort of in the general position of where it goes. The only thing I can think of is that you may have been standing down on the pedal so hard, the cable broke the arm off the top.

I'd I'm seeing it right the broken piece is a lever in the forked ,hinged portion . Do you have the piece that broke off. You may be able to get a piece of T6 flat alum the right thickness and rough cut and shape to work file , grinder ect.
It may also be possible to cut straight broken portion and drill and tap . The lever cable fork/hook could be welded or brazed to bolt ect . An Allan head bolt are usually nice and hard , finer threads are easier to tap drilled with the right bit.

Arkansas Valley Diesel has been mentioned on the forum previously (I believe they're actually located in Colorado, however). It appears that they've had several Ebay auctions for that part and one very recently. On one page, it says they are out of stock but yet on another, it says they have 2 in stock.

You might call them to see if they have any available now. The attached screenshot shows a page that was featured less than two weeks ago. Also attached is their contact info.

Here's the Ebay page from back in June: FREIGHTLINER PEDAL AY,TILT/COLUMN RGT-452262X2

eta: they do describe the item as OEM Freightliner
