Tire change from Michelin to Toyo
New to the forum. Looking forward to contributing when I can.
But for now.....I've spent time reading numerous threads on tire change from Michelin to Toyo. I'm partly convinced that it's the way I'll go.
Currently have 255X80R22.5G Michelin XRV LRG. What would be optimum tire size should I consider replacing the OEM Michelins I noted above?
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Match the size as close as you can...

Here is my advise. When the tire sizes don't match exactly go with the closest size you can get based on the specs. Your tire according to Michelin is has a 38.2" dia, 9.9" section width, and 541 revs per mile. Looking at Toyo I don't see this exact same size. In that case I would advise going bigger if possible. More importantly try to get the newest tires by date code as possible. Tires are made in lot sizes and you could possibly get tires that are 6 months to a year old or more if your installer puts on tires that were warehoused for a period of time.

255/80/22.5 is the size that came with my 2003 Phaeton. While carrying a 1,000# motorcycle on the back, I was overloading the rear tires. In 2004, Tiffin came with 275's on the same coach. I explained my problem to Bob Tiffin and he offered to pay half of the cost to replace the 255's with 275's at the dealer of my choice. (It's one of the many reasons I keep going back to Tiffin for my new MHs). I did that and the fit was tight, but they did work with no rubbing. Check your wheel well opening to see if the 275 will fit. Also, turn your front wheels side to side to be sure you have the clearance from the coach. Then go buy Toyo tires. After going to the larger tire, I had the ECM reprogrammed to get the speedometer corrected to the new size. I drove the coach another 55,000 miles and six years before trading for new.
FWIW, there are many tire brand options on the market. I went with Toyo because of a couple of friends experience. Others have had good results from other brands. Michelins are the highest priced tire and they have a loyal following, but price does not make them any better than several other brands.

Toyo 265/75 will be very close to what you have. Just double check the load rating.
Here's a thread on the same issue:

I went from Michelins to Toyo's, and am very happy.

You can use this calculator to see the precise differences: https://tiresize.com/comparison/
A friend had a Michelin 235/80R22.5 fail on the rear. Because Michelins are so hard to find the repair service brought out a Toyo. He later paid for the Toyo to be moved to the front axle so that both tires on that rear side were the same actual size. I'll probably go to Toyos for the same reason when it's time to replace all of them, a lot easier to find in an emergency. Apparently only Michelin makes those "80" sizes.
FWIW,
Ray

265/75R22.5 is the accepted equivalent for the Michelin 255/80R22.5. Goodyear, Toyo, Sumitomo, Bridgestone, etc all use that size rather than the 255/80, which is pretty much unique to Michelin.

I put Toyo M144 on my American Eagle last year and all good with a much lower price than Michelins. Mine happened to be 295x80R22.5 so sizing was easy. Not sure what tire they have for you size wise.

Toyo Tires...
Wish I had that option on my Wanderlodge. It has 365/70R 22.5's on the front;. Michelin is the only manufacturer of that size. The rears are 315/80r 22.5's so I have options on those. Fortunately they were put on new last year so I have plenty of time.

In support our your question, the 245/75R22.5 is the metric substitute for the Michelin 235/80R22.5, and the 265/75R22.5 substitutes for the Michelin 255/80R22.5. The term metric substitute means that tires have the same single max load and nearly the same over-all diameter (meaning there is no charge to the speedometer). Hope the helps and stay safe out there.

Same here, I went from eight Michelins to two Continentals and six Toyos...and save lots of money for equal or better tires...(the shop didn't have Toyos that fit the front).

I went from the 255x80 to 265x75 Toyo I believe they are H rated. I simply love Toyo tires. I got my last set at Les Schwab tires.
