Sorry, no. I was just asking questions of the chemical engineer at a Firestone roofing seminar. I just asked him straight out - How long will the 0.045mil EPDM membrane last? He told me 60 years for sure, and most likely longer.

During his statements at the podium he talked about how the membrane was made and one of the things added to the raw rubber was "carbon black" which gave the raw rubber many of it's attributes, one of which was UV protection.

UV is the problem. Ozone is everywhere. Protect from direct sunlight. Change out the tires when worn out or 7-10 years, whichever occurs first.

I cover them just because it only takes 5 minutes. Do you need to? Does it really help? It's 5 minutes so who cares

covers

i was told by a tire shop that by covering the tires when the sun is shining on them it causes them to heat up and causes rot so you are better of with the protectors that snap on the side so the air can circulate...pk42

I cover mine mainly to keep the aluminum wheels clean and dry even when I wash the coach so I don't get water spots.

The tire shop is there to sell tires.

Yes, UV is the culprit. Cover them up when you can.

As an aside, where does all the used tire rubber go? To avoid confusion I mean the rubber that wears off. Riddle me that..............lol

BTW, cover them, why not?

Anybody remember when Sears sold a tire so good, they took it off the market? Just proves that it can be done.
