Tire manufacturer

Price checking tires for when I take my 2005 HR Ambassador out of storage. Not sure of the date codes. Tire shop suggested Goodyear at $800 per tire. They also sell Sukitomo tires at around $450 a tire. Does anyone know the brand and if they are a reliable tire? I have them on my SUV and like them but I don't want any issues with the motorhome.

Sumitomo tires have been around for decades and are widely used in the heavy trucking industry. They are as good as any brand of tire you can find and certainly a lot better than either Goodyear or even Michelin.

I agree. Sumitomo is one of my favorite brands. I believe they've been making tires since around 1900 but the company itself dates back to the 1600s as a little shop in Japan. I was told that most of the engineering and design work is still done in Japan. Many if not most of their commercial truck tires are now manufactured at the old Goodyear plant just outside of Buffalo in Tonawanda New York so most likely the tires you'll purchase will be stamped with "Made in USA." I'd definitely opt for the Sumitomo and there would be no hesitation at all if I had a choice of paying extra for Goodyear or buying Sumitomo at a much better price but comparable or even superior quality.

Agree. Just bought set of Toyo M177. Made in Japan. Either a good choice at better money.

I vote for it wont be Goodyear for $800 per tire.

I just put 4 -Toyo m177 on my rears for $445 per tire, $131 for 1 new steel inner rim and $156 to mount/balance all 4.

I'm a Toyo fan. Check around for prices.
