Tire Pressure, how low can you go?

Addressing the OP's comments about handling feel - I put new tires on a couple of months ago and had the same impression I think you did. I thought it felt loose or a bit squirrely. (how did that become a word? Is it a word?)

My neighbor drives Fed Ex Freight and he wasn't surprised at all. "Just drive it; it'll be fine." I did, and it is. Doing some reading as a result of that feel vs what I had apparently been used to over the past 10 years I found I was not alone on that impression.

Setting aside weight and inflation, I learned that the loose feel was not necessarily unexpected and now after about 3,000 miles either it has settled in, or I gave adapted. Or a bit of both. In any case, the last 500 miles was a much nicer drive than the first 500.

The takeaway I see here is that you need to be hitting the road!

To do it correctly, you need to get a four position weigh to find out the weight on each corner. The WI State Highway Patrol Vehicle Inspection came to my home at my request and did two six position weighs to help me get it right at no charge. He said it was my tax dollars at work. From that you can determine if the ride height needs to be adjusted to reduce unbalanced corner weights. When that is done then as someone suggested, adjust the tire pressures to 5 psi higher than the load chart suggests and do it on a 60 degree morning before the tires have moved. This will get you the most optimum ride and handling. This is assuming that the alignment is correct. I did this over a year ago and have not needed to adjust pressure since. I check the TPMS each morning and hit the road.
