Tire size

Had a blowout on the American Eagle Memorial Day. The tire dealer put 295 75r 22.5 tires on instead of the 275/70r22.5 original equipment tires. Do you think I will be ok with the different size tires?

The 295 tire is wider and taller than the 275. Be surprised if your rv will be level side to side and front to back. If it was rv I would stay with the same tire size.

Front or back?

Only one?

Agree, that is a "well less than proper" size substitution. MAY be OK short term in front but cut angles may be affected.

One in back-- NO WAY. That new tire will be carrying virtually all the load on that side.

Thanks for the clarification .

My coach rides on 275/70R 22.5s , only a few manufactures produce this size , I went through a search 4 years ago for suitable replacements .
The taller & wider tire installed ; will throw your speedo accuracy off , and may be tall enough to interfere with fenders or the floor of the coach .

I'd imagine the new tires have load capacity equal to or greater than the originals.

The biggest issue would be dual spacing , a function of the offset of the rims in the rear . If the spacing isn't enough , then as the tires side walls deflect under load , the inner and outer tires can touch and wear each other and build heat ; causing damage .
I'll go through the links that Camp CA has provided and check specs , both for % of speedo accuracy and offset requirements, and repost my findings.

I see Camp CA's links give your speedo accuracy %.

What I have from the Michelin tire specs is the 295/75 requires a minimum spacing of 13" compared to the 275/70 minimum of 11.9".

Because I replaced with the same size tire I didn't look into measuring the spacing , or contacting the chassis manufacturer for info on it .
But if your rims were at the minimum spacing for the 275/70s you have an issue with possible sidewall " Kissing " that can lead to early tire failure .

I'll see if I can dig up info on how to determine the measurement .

Can you post info on your original tire brand and that of the replacements and chassis manufacturer?

It puts you at 5.8% difference in circumference. That's pretty much max you would want to go especially at rear as it changes final drive ratio to the road. Speedo off 3.7 mph at 65mph if it was dead on before. Don't forget to check/set the new tire pressure for weight.

Our 2003 Phaeton has 235/80/22.5 tires when new. After two years, I needed more capacity to carry a 900# motorcycle on the back, and switched to 275/80/22.5 Goodyear tires. (Bob Tiffin paid for 50% of the replacement tires) It was a very tight fit through the rear fender well, but I still had adequate clearance between the tires. The speedometer was off by 6.25% and had Freightliner reprogram the computer to correct it. I drove that coach another 6 years and 60,000 miles before trading it for new. If you have enough clearance between the duals and no issues with steering clearances, you will be fine. It's easy to get the speedo corrected if you want to and I think the Allison was reprogrammed to different shift points.

Definitely not on rear and only on front long enough to get another tire.
I’m surprised your eagle takes a 275, my Revolution takes a 29580r22.5

To determine dual wheel spacing , you have to measure rim width to determine the center or the rim , mark the rim center ,then measure to the outer edge of the mount flange , that measurement X2 is your rim spacing .

I would assume the larger tire has more load capacity , so dual spacing is the biggest concern to insure these tires are good for your coach .

Not familiar with OEM tire requirements for the Eagle but the 295 80r is a pretty standard tire size for medium to large DPs. The 275 70/75r tire size is often found on shorter, lighter DP's. I tend to think of the American Eagle as being in the former category--is the OP sure the 275 75rs were OEM on his rig?
