My RV has a rack for a spare hidden underneath. I carry an unmounted tire to use if I have a flat and the tire service doesn't have a new tire to mount. I don't carry tools to change out a tire and rim on the road, so it gives a bit of flexibility while traveling.

That's what I have Coach Net for. Couldn't see buying a tire that is likely to age out before it got put to the ground.

When I bought new tires, I took the best, newest of the old ones and put it underneath. I'm aware of it's age, I can replace it with a used tire if it gets too old. Using it as a spare, it's sort of like one of those 'donut' spares, good for 80 miles or so, until I get to a place i can buy a new tire in proper size and load range.
