It is that time. My tires are approaching the 7 year mark and I am looking at replacing my GY G670 (HATE THEM, due to rivering) with either the Bridgestone R 280's or Toyo M 154. Tire size is currently a 275x80x22.5 16 ply and the replacement tire size would be 295x75x22.5. Keep in mind I have 16 ply on there now and would like to keep it.

Any advice or better yet First hand experience?

I'm looking at the Bridgestone R250 or Continental HSR2 to replace my 4 rear GY 670's. I use 295/80R22.5 LRG, so choice of brands is rather limited.

On these bigger rigs w/22.5" wheels, and plenty of room in the wheel well, why would minor variances in size matter? 275/80 versus 295/75, etc.

You need a certain amount of clearance BETWEEN the rear duals. Going from a 275 to a 295 is reducing the clearance between the dual tires by 3/4" (2 cm) that is a lot.

What is rivering? The distance between the duals is critical for 22.5" or 19.5". It may be tighter on the 22.5" though, I know mine look close.

I also am thinking of the continental HSr2SA. However, my local dealer says he has never heard of them. Have you actually seen them?

Google - Goodyear tire rivering and read all about it.

I am running Continental Eco Plus on mine 275 80 R22.5 5 yrs old no problems and run smooth. Your tire size is important the larger or smaller the tire is from OEM will affect your speedo reading, and if you have an electronic engine it could affect trans and engine performance. Keep in mind when shopping for tires look at the tire specs not just the # size, you will find some manf. have the same specs but diff number size. Good luck navigating the tire issue. Your best bet is to stay with the proper size tire other wise you will run in to issues some where along the line.

Gary - we put new R250 Bridgestones on last fall - awesome tires - same size. We did the beads for balancing! Very smooth!

I had 22.5 Toyo for 6 years with good success.

We had a problem balancing the replacement Toyo tires on the rear axle, so dealer refunded the purchase price and installed all new Bridgestone tires.

Bridgestone have been excellent for the past 3 years.

Equal powder for balancing in the fronts only on the original Toyo and Bridgestone tires.

I'm planning on putting 4 Continental HSR's on the back of my coach next month. It's a good tire and somewhat less expensive than the GY & Michelin - and even a bit less than Bridgestones.

I just checked on tires and with the OIL (GAS) Prices going through the roof the tires are also following. Bridgestones just $468.00 each for 295R80 22.5's, so you can just bet the others are over $500 Bills.
I am going to go with the Bridgestones and will wait a little to see if the cost or oil starts dropping?

Hi all - I am sorta new to RVing & definitely new to this forum. Have learned sooo much reading all yer back&forths on a variety of subjects.

time for a question: we just bought (in december - already made 6 small trips!) an 04 Winnebago Journey 34ft DP. Love love love it. But need to replace all tires cuz 7+yr old. Tires on RV are 255/80 R22.5 Radial Michelins. Called a couple places today and they're telling me there are no substitutes so must go with the michelins. At $557/tire. Ouch!! Is this the true story we're getting? If so fine. We'll have our heart attack - and then buy the tires. But is there any way to use different tires etc etc? Any advise for us newbies? We're 2 women so don't assume we know much.

just enough to stay outta trouble!! Hopefully...
