Tow / Haul Mode Question

Hello everyone - I have a question, has anyone used the Tow / Haul mode on the new 2021 F53 - V8 chassis? How did it help or hinder you?
This mode may have been offered on previous years, but this is the first time I've seen one.
Thanks .. Paul

I have no experience with the 2021 Ford motor. But unless Ford made some changes, the tow haul mode changes the shifting points of the transmission which is suppose to help with towing the additional weight. But the biggest benefit of the tow haul mode is that if you tap the brake, it will downshift one gear, and you can do it again. This really helps with braking and can help avoid unnecessary brake use and wear and tear. I have the F53 with the 5 speed transmission, and I use tow haul mode all of the time, primarily for the downshifting via the brake pedal.

But, you should be able to read about it in your owner's manual (Ford).

I use mine all the time on my '06 chassis. Really helps with downhills.

I have a 2017 V10, with the 6 speed transmission.
I have Tow/Haul on all of the time.

I figure I'm hauling a house and towing, makes sense to me.

We picked up our 2021 Holiday Rambler Admiral 32S on the 2020 F52 22,000 with the 7.3. We only have about 1300 miles on it, but I've driven most of it with tow/haul on. I think it shifts better, and the downshift on brake tap is great.

We just got back from a 5,000 mile trip from ATL to LAV through UT, AZ, NM, CO, etc. in our 2021 F53 based 30' MH. Towing a 3,600 lb. Chevy Equinox, I used the TOW/HAUL mode almost all the time (except when I forgot to engage it).

What I noticed most is that the transmission held the lower gears longer when accelerating, climbing, or descending hills. Encountered grades between 4% and 10% in the mountains. It was disconcerting the first time the engine cooling fans kicked in when climbing -- seemed as loud as a turboprop airplane from 50' away! The engine would occasionally run up to 4,500 RPM on uphills to try and maintain speed or downhills when engine braking.

Overall, I would say that TOW/HAUL was helpful in all of these circumstances.

Tow / Haul Mode Question

I just recently switched to using the tow/haul mode full time on our new to us MH. Love it.

Good Post Hermes2 ..

So the first time the engine on an uphill grade hit 3700 rpm, those engine cooling fans kicked in ( which I didn't know till now what they were! ) scared the wits out of me .. I got off the gas and let the rpm's drop and cruised up the hill behind a tractor trailer at 45mph!!
I try never to get above 3500rpm, because of those fans - so I take it that's wrong!! Allowing the engine to reach 4500rpm on uphill grades is fine then, even though it sounds like a turboprop taking off??
Thanks I didn't know this.

Ford will not let you over rev that engine.

Usually tow/haul also locks out overdrive but can't speak to the F53 setup.

Tow/Haul does not lock out overdrive on any Ford motorhome 5 or 6 speed transmission.

It wasn't offered on the older ( pre 2005 ), 4 speed transmission. That had an OD OFF button that turned off 4th or overdrive gear.
