I went to Freightliner school in May and they taught us the transmission is set to down shift at 1750 rpms for everyday driving. In the mountains you have to manually down shift your transmission around 1900 rpms like bbeane said. We came back through the Smokies and had no problems at all except for the slow traffic in front of us. We have a 42 ft, pull a 3000 lb car with a 340 Cummins. The school was well worth the money!!
